Russia could never start another Cold War. They no longer have the resources, and it would take a decade to build up any credible threat again.
They can't annex Eastern Europe. Those countries would get protected by the West, and countries like the Czech Republic are a part of NATO, so we'd be compelled by treaty to defend them. Russia wouldn't dare.
We have history on our side. Every country on earth knows what happens when you ally yourself with Russia: you permanently become part of their evil empire, and they won't let you escape. You are their prisoner. You obey Moscow.
Russia has nothing compared to our weaponry. In the Gulf War, some European countries offered their assistance, but the U.S. had to politely decline. Their military technology was so inferior to ours, it would be like a kid with a slingshot asking a guy in a tank if he can help.
Russia isn't trying to start another Cold War, but they are self-deceived enough to believe they are still a credible threat. Besides being able to cut off natural gas flows to Europe, they have no means of carrying out a threat. We'd smack them......... real hard, and they know it.

Ole Vladimir's been at it for a while. Russia and China both would like to see the US eat crow over anything ! This why they have stuck together over the Iran nuclear debate, and have vetoed anything the UN has attempted to do to get Iran to fall in line over their nuclear program.
Russia has shown it's contempt towards the US in a number of ways. Most recently, it's objection over the US putting up it's star wars program, starting with radar sights in Poland. Russia has threatened to point nuclear warheads at Western Europe if this comes to pass.
In another icy debate, Russia is claiming the North Pole as it's own and of coarse, all the oil exploration that comes with it. I believe Russia is in for some serious objection over this one. Canada, and the US have a voice in this matter, and it will be heard to the satisfaction of each of it's objectors.
Vladimir Putin must have gotten his grandiose ideas from Hugo Chavez, another great socialist leader who has taken the idea of democracy and turned it into something know body can quite identify !
The question, can we afford it, can only be answered one way. Can we afford to let Russia and China play king of the mountain? Not if we expect to survive, we can't !

Russia isn't the one to worry about their economy and military is in shambles. It's China. They are already fighting a economic war against the west. They have enough dollars that if they were to drop all of them at once on the market it could devalue the dollar to nothing. Consider that China has the largest standing army in the world and there are no signs of that fact changing. add Taiwan to the picture and you have a good start for WW3. Every time you buy a product that says "Made in China" your furthering their causes. One of the best places to fight is in the market place. You can destroy your enemy by taking him without a shot. There are Chinese terrorists right here in the USA they are sold every day at Walmart.

I don't think they are trying to start a cold war again. It's just that a lot of people in Russia believe that they were better off before the Capitalist boom of the post-Communist era. What I think will happen in Russia is that they will kind of go back to some form of Socialism mixed in with economic and individual freedoms and but they won't go back to being a totalitarian country.

Russia could care much less approximately it. it is going to purely have ten missiles, Russia has thousand of ICBMs. Russia is making a controversy out of it because of the fact of oil. Instability drives up the value of oil. Russia is now a considerable oil exporter. they are no longer interior the purple, the are making billions in earnings. they are utilising that money to rebuild their u . s . a . and protection tension. Why do you think of they shop advertising Iran weapons and nuclear tech? It reason instability and makes them wealthy. If there's a conflict with the U. S. and Iran with winner would be Russia.

Russia does not have the finances nor the military infrastructure to start the cold war again. They have degenerated to the point of being a 3rd world nation with a aging nuclear arsenal that is increasingly undependable due to lack of maintanance. Russia's recent saber rattling is a throwback to a bygone era when their opinon and actions mattered. Now they are deferred to more out of courtesy than necessity.

Putin is certainly going to be a problem.
He is a dark untrustworthy commie.
Ruling a country awash with oil and gas revenue he uses the supply of these fuels as a bludgeoning weapon in european politics.
His ventures in the arctic and plans to develop the russian naval base in tartus, syria are not dissimilar to brinkmanship strategies of the cold war.Worse still,Putin is content to overtly sell weapons to our enemies within the middle east.
We must plan to cease trade with this country as soon as possible and at all costs. The loss of fuel from Russia will have catasrophic effects upon european consumers.yet this is a necessary evil.Russia must be made to pay the price for its behaviour. The loss of revenue from europe will have a great cost upon the russian economy. The longer we wait the more leverage will be gained by the enemy. We must act now.
