I like to exercise and lift weights, and I try to eat a diet that is high in protein. One of the things I do to increase my protein intake is eat canned tuna, usually in oil, that has around 32 grams of protein per can...I am however concerned about how much mercury I might be consuming because I can sometimes eat 3 cans in a week. Is this too often? How much mercury is too much, and how much is it that is contained in tuna?

I don't know how much is in it but some people say you should limit your self to 2-3 x per week. However the risk of poisoning is very low and I think it would only happen if you ate tuna every day. When I was little there were times I had tuna every other day and was fine with it.

Chili is another good source of protein, with about 50 grams in a can. A whole chicken breast or pork chop has around 40 grams. Check out the other kinds of meat on websites like calorieking.com that list the nutrition facts or at the store and see what else is high in protein.

Oh yeah...cheese, yogurt, nuts, peanut butter and milk are more good sources of protein, with about 8 grams per serving.

I don't know if the mercury content of Tuna is as BIG an issue for someone like YOU- as it might be for a child, or a pregnant woman. I think you are FAR more at "risk" of serious injury doing your exercises & weight lifting- than you are of succumbing to mercury poisoning! So, based on THAT analysis, I'd say 3 cans of tuna week probably ISN'T going to kill you. :)

you're in a position to devour seafood sparsely. i've got study that a million-2 cans a week of canned gentle tuna is high-quality. you could produce different fish, shellfish, and so on sparsely. ie. a pair circumstances a week max. you could not have tilefish or shark. additionally you're able to basically devour cooked seafood--i comprehend that's a nobrainer. different than seafood, you're able to not devour lunchmeat or warm canine that have not been heated up for a pair seconds first. basically drink juices and milks that are pasteurized, besides as cheese created from pasteurized milk. different than those, you're sturdy to pass! Congratulations and sturdy success!!
