Smoking is much worse as it can kill you. So I guess I would go for the lesser of two evils as long as it wasn't hideously exposed !! :)

Well,
I don't have a daughter. But I'm fair sure i'd be right if I said tattoo. I've gotten my lip pierced behind their backs (took it out due to wrong placement) and I didn't really get into trouble at all. Also stretched my ear to 3mm without them knowing, and now they offer to help with it.
A tattoo is a lot more minor then smoking. Smoking is a habit that pretty much destroys your health from the first puff, and it's a lot harder to quit. It's also very expensive. While a tattoo may cost $300 at first, it will barely cost you much afterwards, and it's sort of teaching them responsibility in a way -- in that they have to take care of it during the healing process.

As long as the tatoo is from a safe and registered parlor it is safe so not really a problem. However, Smoking is very dangerous to the health and therefore worse.

I would rather they got a tattoo at least that won't kill them and smoking is such a bad habit and hard to quit. And tattoos hurt depending on where you get them and if she does not like it oh well she will have to live with that decision for the rest of her life. Or have a really expensive laser surgery to have it removed. I like tattoos so I guess I'm not the person to ask.

my youngest daughter is 14 and i know she has been smoking but i just gave her the run down on the effects of smoking and told her to take a look at me ( ovarian cancer at 50) and she says she wont do it again but what good would a lecture be if she had a tattoo its such a permanent thing .so smoking can be dealt with .you cant remove a tattoo without a lot of prolonged grief. but neither is a good thing at all.

Depends how old she is but my 8yr old daughter answered this one as i read it out so here is what she said.
A tattoo is better because smoking kills you.
Me i feel the same as long as she goes to a proper tattooist then i would not care. Well i would but you know what i mean, at the end of the day it is her life and she has to live with her desiccation's. Go easy on her we only young once.

Tattoo, not becuase I am against them (you all should know that by now, lol), but because they are permanent. I don't think anyone should get a tattoo unless they think about it long and hard. If my kids are anything like me they are gonna want the lamest tattoos when they are young.
On a side note, if I ever catch my kids smoking I'm going to scream at them for HOURS about how smoking killed my grandmother and how its killing their grandparents (if it hasn't killed them already, my fiance's parents smoke). I will make them suffer.

I'd be more mad at her for smoking. A tattoo isn't that damaging to health (done in the right environment) and certainly is cheaper than smoking (in the long run).

Smoking. Because of the health risks attached to it. I couldn't say much about the tattoo.. I have 5 myself. But I would be upset either way, because it's breaking the trust barrier.

Smoking hands down.
It will ruin her health forever and if she gets addicted then she'll struggle to stop
A tattoo is ok as long as its tasteful and not anywhere dodgy or some boyfriend's name that she is likely not to be with 4eva.
