The past 2 nights I have received multiple harrassing phone calls on my cell phone at around 1-3 in the morning. They are from an area code about 800 miles away, but the guy who calls mentions a local bar and asks for "Amy." I keep telling him he has the wrong number and asking what number he is trying to dial, but he won't tell me and keeps asking what my name is (I won't tell him but I do say I am not Amy).

His voice is not familiar and I don't have anyone who has grudges against me (that I know of). I think he is just drunk and screwing around, but he called multiple times both nights. I had my first and last name (uncommon last name) on my outgoing voicemail message and I took it down with a message just saying my phone number, but now I am concerned that he has my name and phone number and seems to be stalking me.

Should I be worried if he calls again tonight or do you think he is just some idiot with nothing else to do? What should I do?

if he calls again tonight just say you are calling the police and hang up. have your non emergency # for your local police available and give a ring if he calls, no need to dial 911 for this
let the call taker know you want to report harassing phone calls. they will ask you specific questions... answer to the best of your ability. they will enter the call and an officer will contact you to make a report. they will more than likely call the person and tell them not to call you any more too

Just turn off your cell phone; he will still call you but you won't have to deal with the crap.

Or, get a guy to answer the phone. For some reason, prank callers get the picture a lot more quickly when a man answers the phone and yells at them if they pull anything.

I wouldn't worry about it, but I do understand how annoying and sometimes frightening it can be. If he keeps harrassing you, see if you can turn the tables and get him to tell you what his name and location is; then you can use that info and his number (which should be stored on your phone) to get the police involved.

Call the cops, but there probably won't be much they can do for you. Have you Googled the numbers? Sometimes this will give you some info on who owns the lines, or at least what area they are coming from. My 1st suggestion is to always keep your doors and windows locked when you are home alone. My 2nd suggestion is to change your number, it isn't that hard to do, give your friends your new number first. My 3rd suggestion is to get mace and keep it on your key-chain in case whoever the harasser is confronts you. Have your mace ready to spray when you are walking at night or are alone. My 3rd suggestion, if you are really scared that the person will be coming after you, is to move to a new place. If you ever find out who the person is, get a restraining order on them.

Don't answer the phone anymore, when you see that it's him calling you. The more you continue to talk to him, the more he'll call you. If you are still getting calls from this creep after ignoring his calls, then my advice to you is too get your number changed. Get rid of your phone number in your voicemail for now. I hope the calls stop soon.

change your number - report the calls to the police - save the messages and play them back to the police.

call the phone company and have them track that number or have the police track that number - are cell phones covered by the FCC? - if so call the FCC and involve them.

yes, change your number. easiest way out. i had a very similar thing happening to me after midnight for a few nights in a row. but i didn't answer either time. just let the voicemail do it. it's suspicious, might be the same weirdo trying to get girls. but i'd change the # if i were you.

tape the phone calls or save them on your phone then take the phone or the tape to your local police department. They will probally tap your phone.

Check with your carrier. The information may be on their web site. They will be able to advise you further.
