Thanks!

i'm christian and i don't see divorce as acceptable. i see divorce as a cowards way out because the couple doesn't want to work out their problems. there are some couples who say that divorce is not an option. couples who work through problems together are usually stronger in the long run. the only time divorce is acceptable is when the spouse is abusive to the kids or other spouse or is addicted to substances or some other malicious thing. the reason why divorce has become acceptable is because people today do not take marriage seriously. they treat dating relationships as marriages rather than the other way around. people think that marriage is a cake walk but it's not. it takes and requires communication, honesty, trust, and love to make a marriage work. as far as gay marriage is concerned it defies the logistics of biology. man meets women...man dates women...man marries women...man has sex with woman and conceiving is possible. every culture, society, religion, and civilization past and present has defined marriage as between a man and a woman. both are damaging. divorce hurts families and hurts spouses financially and emotionally. gay marriage hurts potential procreation and creates a slippery slope.

Neither -- meddling, such as from politicians and social activists, is the real danger.

Marriage should be a mater left to the couple. If gays want to get married, I don't have to agree with it to say I shouldn't judge or interfere. If a marriage is going badly its not me to decide for two other people what is acceptable for them to do -- better too many divorces than a return to the bad ol' days when people stayed in abusive situations because it was too shameful to be divorced.

So neither -- its people taking it on themselves to decided what is acceptable marriage practice to others that is the real danger.

P.S.: Research has shown that divorce is better for kids than living in a home where the parents are unhappily married.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) refferences "Offenses against the dignity of marriage" (2380-91): adultery, divorce, free union & concubinage, incest, polygamy, sexual relations contracted before marriage {Alphabetically}. {Remember, this was written before Gay marriage was requested by the masses} ... Homosexuality is talked about in 2357-2359.

Since it was Henry the Eight who opened the flood gates on divorce ... I'd say the divorce is the biggest threat against marriage. However, closet "gay's" have to layer the deceit so, I think they're a huge threat. Which is probably why the CCC says this about homosexuality:

"2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition."

Divorce would be the obvious answer, for it's the end of marriage.

Gay marriage, because it attacks the institution of marriage itself.

Gay marriage is an oxymoron. I really don't give a rats a** if you thumb me down either.

I really don't understand how people can justify legalizing "gay marriage."

In a regular family the parents deserve a tax break because they have children that they hopefully will raise to become productive members of society. "Gay parents" don't have children at all, and they claim they deserve a tax break too.

So if Bob and Bill wanted a tax break, if this gay marriage deal is instituted, they could just live with each other and pretend to be gay. Believe me so many people would try to take advantage of this kind of perverted legislation.

Another point is that you cannot force a religious leader to authorize a "gay marriage" - it is fundamentally against many of the major religions. You cannot tell a priest or imam that he must marry two people of the same sex. That is fundamentally against their religion.

Note to Ihalmiut - I mostly agree with you, but I disagree about the part where you suggest that marrying more than one woman is wrong. In my religion, we believe a man is allowed to marry up to 4 wives as long as he can support them and treat them fairly, which admittedly is not an easy job - so that is why polygamy is generally not recommended for most people. But I think polygamy is sometimes a good option. For example, let's say a man marries a woman who is infertile. Well, if he marries another woman maybe they can have children and this will bring joy to all involved, including the first wife. And also, sometimes in a society the % of women is much higher than men - so in this case too it makes sense to allow polygamy.

Another point is that in this country there is de facto polygamy occuring - basically men have girlfriends or mistresses on the side and it's considered cheating. What about allowing polygamy so that it gives men that option if they can financially support their wives and be fair to them?

Straight couples are ruining marriage. We should let gay couples have the opportunity to revive it for us. Otherwise, who knows what will happen?

How is gay marriage hurtful to adopted children? Being placed in a loving home doesn't matter if both people are the same sex? You're right, that does seem very logical.

Neither..marriage is not harmful, divorce is not harmful... it's how a marriage is handled that can be harmful (or not)

~How well two committed people care for each other and their children is the most telling.

Both, because gay marriage will lead to just that many more divorced couples. And the gays that adopt kids or are inseminated, and get divorced (take Melissa Ethridge for instance). Now you have a really screwed up deal. You have a mother and a "mom" and then a stepMom,or mother and her next mommy in their lives...holy cow!
The only reason I'm sort of for gay marriage is that they break up so often and I'd like to see more people besides Hetero's paying 50% of their income to some slob.

"And if you think that a certain type of marriage is more harmful to marriage than divorce is, please explain..."

State regulated marriage is definiately more harmful to the institution than divorce is.

Governmental sanction is the worst thing that ever happened to the "sanctity" of marriage. It's a sacred event. The State should stay out of it entirely.

Neither. Divorce is necessary for people, other wise they will keep living their miserable lives and further harm others by their actions. Same-sex marriage is needed to protect same-sex unions and families, yes that includes children. :-)
