Provided they were married for 10 years or longer while he was in service she would be entilted to 1/2 of his retirement until she remarried. If he was not retired but was diabled any of his surviving children would have been eligible for SSI unitl age 18 and for Tricare Medical Benefits until age 23 provided they were a student at least 1/3 of the time. She may have filed to receive 1/2 of his disablity income which would have ( or should have) stopped when she remarried. Any benefits paid by SS or by Tricare or VA would be docmented and could be researched with some time and effort. Any funds provided to her would have been for the care and support of the service memebers children.

Just to add to the other information I have noticed you have already received. There is a strong possibility your Father received a military disability discharge and if that is the case, he possibly was eligible to receive additional benefits. A disability pay check can add greatly to other benefits. Worth your time to find out.

It will probably stay in your mothers name until she passes one day. It doesn't transfer directly to his kids. Although you may be eligible for college money, or other like health benefits. Call the VA: 1-800-827-1000
