It sounds strange, but it was a salad. That was in 1992 and I remember it to this day. It was field greens, with a house garlic vinaigrette, croutons, candied walnuts, and gorgonzola. It was at the Calistoga Inn in Napa Valley, CA. We sat outside on the patio over the creek, and I devoured it. The weather, the setting, the company, the food, it was incredible. I'll never forget it.

Raw oysters and wine on the pier with my lover. It may not have been the most tasty, but it was the most memorable. I was in love, and he loved me. It's been 30 some years ago but that was the best lunch that comes to mind.

One of my best lunches ever was after a meeting. My mates & I literally pigged out on fresh caesar salad, the juciest bbq ribs, what I thought was 4kg of baked pink salmon with melted cheese, and fudgy brownies with walnuts. Oh happy day! :-D

Several places, particularly the better seafood houses, offer "sampler" plates that usually have a fairly generous helping of the specialties of the house. I have had samplers in Van Couver (salmon), Boston (scrod), New Orleans (oysters), several others and I have never had bad meal this way.

My first Monte Christo sandwich -- it's been almost 40 years and it's still the best lunch I ever had.
