I've been looking online and the highest paying job is in the medical field. About 150,000, im not saying that that is too small but my mom and dads combined salary will be that in the fall and we live in house worth 215,000. we baraly have enough at the end of each month. how do people who are just like that own a million dollar house? yeah saving but when people have a 9,000 dollar mortgage payment and they are getting a 7,000 dollar monthly salary. i dont understand it. I was thinking a good job was paying 200 - 300 thousand year, im really confused!! what should i be when i grow up?!

Get all the education you can. That pays off in the long run. People who have money don't spend it all. You invest what you have and it grows so that you have something. The idea that you should be able to hop thru college and then get this tremendous job and have everything you want is a farce. You have to plot and plan and work and work. The more you work, if you're smart and invest well, is how you live down the line. You also don't make big bucks when you work for someone else. They do. So you have to know enough, have enough experience, have enough $, you own the company, and you get the profits. . .or loss. . .You take the risk. So what you want to be when you graduate is smart. . .very very smart.
Start reading investment books now. It takes a long time to know what you are doing. . . Good luck.

You DO realize that your parents are paying mortgage on the house, right?

I think you should be something you ENJOY. Stop looking at the money. My dad is a nurse anethestist and makes just over $120K/year. Guess what? He works his butt off and his my entire life.

Get over the money amount and look at what people enjoy. I have an uncle who invested wisely and was able to live out his last years (cancer) in peace because he and his family had saved so carefully. He was worth over $30 million when he passed.

Where do you live?! Cali-freakin-fornia? There are plenty of places left with decent real estate prices & good local economies. I say this at risk of causing another invasion into TX (we are already under attack from the south), but Houston has a stupid-great economy. There are lots of good jobs here & plenty of reasonable real estate (& it is turning down a bit). Even at the peak of this stupid real estate euphoria of recent years, you can still get a decent starter house in the 'burbs for under $100k. You do not have to make $9k/mo. to be happy or retire rich. You just have to live on less than you make, regardless of where you live & what you make. Check out the books below. They will give you a little perspective & are required reading in our house.

People who make $150K DON'T live in million dollar homes.

Have you ever read a paper ow watched the news? CEOs of large companies can make tens of millions PER YEAR.

FYI, I believe the average household income is closer to $50K right now.

how in the world do your parents pay 9k a month for a house worth 215k? the only reason would be to get it paid off asap which is smart, othewise, people usually do not have to pay that amount for a mortgage, maybe you should ask your parents how long til the house is paid for

grow up
read some statistics.
most people don't make half of 200,000. my parents combined make just over $100k a year.

go to college and study something you like, don't worry about the pay. you can support yourself on a lot less than that.

What do you want to be? What are you passionate about? Take my advise you can not focus on mostly money or you will never be happy.
