Hello. Yesterday, I ate McDonalds and then I threw it up because it made me sick. Then I felt like I had to go to the restroom but I couldn't. So I finally went just now and all of it was a normal brown color and then at the very end, it was dark green and almost black. I have read that this can mean that there is blood in the stool if it is this color however, I have heard that it is usually all of the stool that comes out is discolored and that its texture is comparable to coffee grounds.

Someone please help me out. I am a hypochondriac so therefore, I am worried with bleeding stomach ulcers altho I have never been diagnosed with any.

Any suggestions would be appreciative!!!

Did you eat anything with blueberries? Some other foods can turn your stools dark in color.

Or if you are taking iron supplements that can turn your stools dark also.

I would suggest that you not worry about it. Dark green stool is a sign of a lot of iron. Taking Pepto-Bismol will also turn your stool that color.

You ate something that your body did not like and that is the way it handled the problem. No problem unless this continues after about 24 hours or so. You are eliminating the problem through your stools.

Every time I have had an upset stomach with the stool color change, it was something I ate. Sometimes meat, sometimes other stuff, especially spinach.

You need to be sure of whether it was black or green. Green means that you digested quickly (usually happens if you're active, suddenly change your diet, or drink a lot of water) and there's bile left in the poop, and it can also mean that you ate food with green or black dyes in it. Black means there's internal bleeding in your stomach or high up in your intestines; usually when this happens, the black poop also has a tar-like texture. If there's any doubt whether it was green or black, go to your doctor just to be sure (and bring a stool sample, because they'll want one to test). I don't know if this applies to poop, but I know that many black paints and dyes are actually very dark shades of green, so the blackish part may have just been dark green.

What did you take for your upset stomach, pepto bismal, or something else. That can cause discoloration in bowel movements. Blood usually causes very black, tar-like stools.
If you didn't take something for your stomach, then if it doesn't clear up, go to a gastro dr.

Since the whole stool wasn't dark colored you are fine. It is mostly likely something you ate that caused it.

Do you take iron pills? They can cause the stools to be black. If not, call your Dr. and ask him about it.

only black indicates the possibility of blood. the green is just due to your diet and will go away in a couple days. don't worry so much.
