It happens because when you get emotionally worked up over something your body releases stress hormones which lead to feeling physically ill.
You need to do things that provide some release and get your brain chemistry back on track. Exercise is great for this -- it actually burns off those very stress hormones and leaves you with a pleasant glow. Spending time with friends and laughing have a similar effect, too.
At the very least, make an effort to just stop thinking about it for a few hours. Find a book or TV series to get lost in for a while. One both your body and mind are in a calm state, both start to feel better. If both are in turmoil, the other suffers.

I am a female, and I think while physical pain may hurt, the body will heal itself faster then with the emotional pain, which is perhaps much more painful since one must heal emotionally and that may take a very long time. =P

Only time will tell. Everyone handles pain differently. What works for me may not work for you. Sometimes you just need to grieve for a while, but don't let it consume you. Vent to a friend or the one that did you wrong. Getting it off your chest that way may help. I will say this, you might not get it now, but know you are a queen and who ever did you wrong didn't deserve in the first place. They screwed it up for themselves.

Honestly, I don't have an answer to your question, but to get rid of all pain try to speak with your friends more often than you usually do, and to find always something to do to make your time occupy.
I have felt the same when that happened

You need to let go of all the emotions you had for this person. It isnt healthy and will eat you up inside. Let it all go, and take time away. Dont contact this person in any way... just forget about it. They dont deserve a second longer in your thoughts. Release all that energy you have put into them and put it back into your own life. If they truly loved you, they wouldnt put you though it. I can bet they arent sitting there sad thinking about you....

good question.
the pain is caused by severe emotional stress.
I think working out, meditating, reading, and relaxing your mind and body in general would be the best cure for the physical pain.
or just eat chocolate:)
try laughing, having fun with friends etc. for the emotional pain.
and have faith that things happen for a reason and it will all work out in the end.
good luck!

It hurt Physically because you let it get to you too much.
You find activities, surround yourself with people, go out a meet other people to date. You direct your energy into something eles. Write a poem if helps, it dont have to be good to you to make it work. Sing if you want to or listen to music. Think about inventing something.

emotions and physical pain share the same neurotransmitters to communicate with the brain. This is why depression so often leads to physical pain.

You have to move on and know that there are better guys out there. If he lefted you or you left him, there is obviously a reason, that is why you and him can't be together. So don't feel bad, there are tons of others guys out there in the world, and at least one of them is better than your old boyfriend. Just go out there and find him!
