It depends on the alcohol, the person, and whether they are eating. A 90 pound girl who takes a few sips of vodka on an empty stomach will probably be too tipsy to drive, while a 200 pound man who takes a few sips of light beer after a large meal will have no driving impairment. The alcohol effect dissipates with time, so if you drink a little bit, and wait an hour or so, you will be better off.

I only drink during my annual summer vacation so I've got a week at the end to get all the alcohol out of the fluids that
is subject to testing by folks with zero tolerance for abuse.
I drink at my residence or woodland camps but don't drive until at least the next day. I like a bottle of porter at meals.
I'll sip Southern Comfort on my back porch. I'll nap a lot.
Sometimes I'll walk down to the ocean and chat with gulls.

It depends on several factors; such as do you take any type of medications and have you eaten anything lately. The rules of thumb that people have mentioned in the answers are correct, in general, but everyone's body chemistry is as different as DNA or fingerprints. I agree that any amount can affect your driving, just as it can affect your equilibrium. A glass of champagne can have me bumping into tables, for instance. Not falling all over them, but a little more clumsy than usual. Now picture that behind the wheel! LOL In this day and age, it makes no sense to take chances by drinking and driving. A DWI arrest can affect your life forever and preclude your ability to participate in several career paths.

Most people will say it depends on the size of your body and/or how use to the alcohol your body is. I personally think it depends on the brain functions. A normal brain it takes about 3-4 beers. Now, of course you will say after 3-4 beers you are not drunk. This may be true, but that doesn't mean the beer hasn't affected you or your driving ability. Think about it, after 2 beers a man believes he can pick up any woman in the bar and when he begins speaking he is the best at everything. Men nor women can admit any mistakes after 2 beers. After 3 beers woman think they can pick up any man in the bar and when they begin speaking they are the best at everything. Once you are past this limit lights, music, and people begin to annoy you. When you get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking it is the same way; you are the best and lights, music, people begin to bother you. This affects your driving!!!!

Do yourself a favor and don't even entertain the idea of alcohol and driving. Thousands of innocent people get murdered every year by people who think they are OK to drive a 2000 lb vehicle after they only had a couple of drinks. People who drink and drive are selfish, mindless idiots without any regard for human life except their own pitiful life. I don't feel sorry for any of them that get arrested for DUI.

Usually a good rule of thumb is it takes your body 1 hr to dissapate 1 12oz beer, 1 6 oz glass of wine or one shot...a few sips won't affect you, otherwise they wouldn't give out communion wine in church :-)

A few sips - probably no more than 4 tablespoons - no...but, one drink, yes it will affect your driving...before you drink-think.

Depends on the person and the person's body. The legal limit is .08, but I knew someone who would be tipsy after drinking the neck of a beer bottle...of Coors Light. That's barely .01 and yet, no one would trust her behind the wheel...not even her.
