1.Watch the news in Spanish. This is a good exercise because you will always have a context. Watch the film as you listen to the story.

2.Watch Spanish-language films. You can read the subtitles and listen at the same time.

3.Eavesdrop. When you hear people speaking in Spanish try to understand what they are saying to each other.

4.Be fearless. When you are in a setting in which you can use your Spanish just do it. Most Spanish-speakers are glad to help and happy you are trying.

5.Look for things written in Spanish in your home (e.g. instructions for appliances) and see how much you understand. This is a good way to learn new vocabulary.

First of all, if you don't trust your boyfriend, there are issues there. But that's another category to Yahoo! Answers.

Second, learning a language takes time. Sorry to tell you that, but there's no "easy" way to learn a language. It takes time to learn one, so don't even think about taking on German until you've gotten a good grip on Spanish. I've studied Italian for going on six years now, and I'm still not fluent. Don't take this the wrong way, though - learning a language is fun!

There are many way to learn a language. You can do the standard thing and take some courses in school. There are also language instruction programs out there (Rosetta Stone is the best I've heard of so far), that cost a bit, but are very worth it. Spanish would be the easiest to learn - it's everywhere in the states! Try asking your boyfriend to teach you a couple of phrases, or to talk to you only in Spanish - immersion in a language teaches it to you faster. You could also join a Spanish-speaking forum online, and start practicing it there. (All of the above can also be used for German - except your boyfriend, who is probably not trilingual.)

Good luck!

I think Spanish would be most useful, but French is also used in many international organizations. German can also be useful, but I have found that if you learn a language just because it connects to your heritage, it's usually not worth it unless you have a lot of relatives that speak it.

I have found that taking classes is the best way to learn, but if you want to go the inexpensive route, I hear that Instant Immersion is a good program. They have all three of those languages. Just make sure to get a computer microphone.

Well, it isn't going to be easy. Whether you get books or go to classes or hire a tutor or use a CD or try something else, you will still have to make the effort to study and learn. All of those methods can be effective if you dedicate yourself to learning and work at it. I learned a great deal of Spanish just with books. If you check them out of the library, it will be very inexpensive.

Go to the library and take some grammar and beginner books, then when you learn some basics go to yahoo Mexico, Spain or any Latin American country's yahoo answers, read and try to answer questions (the check spelling bar helps with grammar). I learned a lot of portuguese this way! Also, don't forget to find someone to hold some conversation now and then to help your pronunciation because letters are pronounced a lot different. Good Luck!
