Ok so I just got my puppy last night! He is part miniature poodle and chijuaja (sorry about the spelling, I know thats not right and spell check says no misspellings.
My puppy looks more like a poodle and I was told that I should get it's tail cut.I was wondering how old do they have to be to do this?He is 7 weeks old already.

He is NOT too old to have this done. You can still have his tail cropped but they'll have to bandage it and you'll be responsible for ensuring the site is well cared for.

Congrats on your new family member.

Oh and it's Chihuahua

If it hasn't been down by now you should wait until he's old enough to undergo anestesia. Usually docking is done 2-5 days after birth while the bone is still soft. But really docking is only asthetic or used with dogs that would normally have whip tails otherwise (like dobermanns) and if you don't plan on showing the dog I wouldn't put the dog through it.

The breeder should have had it done when the pup was 3 days old. It's much less of a traumatic experience for it.

It can still be done, but it may hurt the puppy a bit more. Talk it over with your vet as he may not even do it.

A new born pup's tail should be docked at 5 days old, then no surgery is required.Sorry but your pet must have surgery to have it's tail docked now.It may have to be at least 12 weeks old now,but you should check with a vet,as different vets have different times that a pup can be put to sleep to have this done.

It should have been done within the first 3 days. You can still do it but it will be a surgical procedure requiring anesthesia, and alot more costly.

He's too old, it should have been done within the first couple of days. Doing it know would be mean and painful.

I think you should talk to a vet about that. I think it depends on the maturity of the dog to how old it has to be.

He's too old. If it was needed it should have been done at 3-4 days old.
