Most of the southern US still calls regular milk 'sweet milk' , as different from buttermilk...so if your recipe is older and calling for 'sweet milk' that just means whatever you've got in the fridge that isn't buttermilk! Even old recipes would specify condensed milk...that's been around forever, same as evaporated milk has.

If it is an old recipe, it is referring to just plain milk. Some time ago, and currently in some areas, sweet milk meant milk, as opposed to buttermilk. Your recipe means milk, not condensed milk.

Sweet milk was the milk that had been freshly milked without separting the cream to make butter or the milk from the butter, which was buttermilk. In today's age, whole milk is what is called for, not 2%, fat free, etc.

Sweet milk is an expression that means fresh milk. It means not spoiled, sour, or decaying; fresh: sweet milk. Whole milk works the best

Yes, sweet milk is condensed milk. Condensed milk is called sweet milk because it's evaporated into thick liquid, added with lots of sugar.

sweet meant fresh, as in sweet water or sweet milk or sweet butter. even today's whole milk isn't "whole" milk since we don't like all that fat/cream, which is now used to make butter. used to be when you bought milk the cream would rise to the top, now it's all homogenized. sweet milk is as straight from the cow, goat or whatever as you can get it...
