Not enough info to answer that question. Are the negative thoughts associated with getting married? What type of "hurt" or you talking here, physical or psychological? As far as can you change, it depends on what exactly you're talking about.

OK first of all what kind of scary thoughts????? Death, hurting someone, evil, thoughts totally out of your norm? I went through a scary thought phase also, it scared me to death! One day I went to a chiropractor cause my neck had been hurting for a long time off and on. He cracked my neck and all the scary thoughts went away!! It turned out I had a pinched nerve causing my thoughts. I would suggest a chiropractor to anyone having this problem, if that didn't work than a brain scan for tumors.

Dear Matthew

You can wipe negative thoughts out of your mind by reading positive material or watching positive, uplifting entertainment. Stay away from horror movies or any form of entertainment that revolves around scenes of cruelty or sadistic behavior. These forms of entertainment are destructive to your mental health. Also stay away from alcoholic beverages and mind bending drugs because they lessen your inhibitions. It will help if you listen to quiet peaceful music instead of heave metal/hard rock or rap.

You might even consider going to church.

You can train your own mind to stop thinking negative thoughts.

you are the only one in control of your mind, and of course you can change your thought processes. But frankly, I would not commit to a long term marriage type relationship until I was sure I had made the change. One of the ways you can make that change is to unload all the emotional baggage you carry around with your memories.
