chances are if they are strays, they have met other cats before. you shouldn't have too much trouble. i've heard they put one in the bathroom and they other on the other side of the door so they can sniff each other safely. i've also heard to put one in a room and put a baby gate in the doorway and put the other on the other side of the baby gate so they can see each other and smell each other. but my vet always said to just put them in the same room together and let them do their thing.

If you have a place where you have a screen door put them where they can see each other and get to know each other without any fighting. Or use a large cat carrier, don't use a small one, the cat inside will feel trapped. You more than likely will not have any problems, this should give you an idea if they will get along. A little hissing is no big deal and it will take them a little while to get to know one another but they should be fine. I have 17, just introduced a new one that showed up about a week ago and he's running around the house without too much of a problem. I have one (number 16) that knows he's a boy (too young to spay yet) and she hisses but not one fight. When you put them together for the first time have a large glass of room temp water available if they do get in a fight, do not stick your hand in the fight unless you are wearing good leather gloves.

Just put them together. They probably know each other anyway if they are strays from the same area. You shouldn't have a problem.

Get them both spayed to decrease fighting and to increase the chances that they'll get along and to make sure no kittens are born. The world doesn't need anymore.
And,
get them tested for feline aids and leukemia to make sure they don't infect each other. If you can't afford to get them at least spayed, please take them to a shelter.
