I don't believe in anything just because my parents did or didn't. I go with my own convictions and research.

Belief is a funny thing, it's not really knowledge, it's faith that some idea is truth, but without anything concrete to base that faith upon such as experience. So in that way, belief in God or not believing in God are the same, both are based on belief. If you had an encounter with God, then you would know God exists or if you had an encounter that proved God did NOT exist, then that would be knowledge, but nobody has every had proof that God didn't exist, it's just a belief projected from a physical science viewpoint. It's not the same as believers who have faith because of what someone said who claims to have proof of God, such as Jesus or some other God-Realized person. There is no such counterpart with atheists, they don't believe there is no God because the Great Crocoduck had proof and they believed him (or it). So arguing over beliefs is futile really. If you had never been to Malibu for example and I had and told you of the Colony and how beautiful it is there, you might believe it's true but you would not REALLY know what Malibu is like. In the same way, if someone told some primitive tribesman who had never had contact with the modern world about Ipods that played videos and were only 8" long, they might not believe you, might even laugh at the idea.

Things like that happen all the time. Many children of atheists find religion and plenty of children from pious families loose their faith.

Your parents only have so much influence over you, sooner or later you become your own personality. I am not the same faith as my parents, I broke away by age 14. I'm happy and still close to mt mother and father.

My two sons are both very moral but neither of them are particularly religious. One believes in God and the other isn't too sure. That's okay, life is a mystical journey, you get to find the answers along the way.

There might be a chance because assuming i studied in a secular school during high school and when i went to college opportunities are great. It is in this level that we think and act on our own, we will have a new independence not to mention that in entering an open university, you will meet a lot of sects name it So having the freedom i got, could now change my faith. Ergo, it doesn't follow as such if your parents were both atheists but there is a great possibility for children to follow their parent. On the contrary, there is always a room for their children to choose what belief they want in life.

Interesting question. I can 't answer from personal experience however, my husband and I are both atheists and we have two children who show "signs" of their future beliefs.

My oldest (15) has never shown any kind of belief or interest in belief in a god. He is now, according to him, an atheist.

My youngest (8) has said some very pointed things like "Science can't answer all of our questions."

When I asked what he meant, he said, "Questions like,'is there a god' and 'what is our purpose.'"

As an atheist, I don't squash his ideas. He must come to his own conclusions. I think, if either of them will, he'll be the believer in the family.

Good question.

Both of my parents were open minded Christians. As was I, for many years.

It was the absurdity of the bible and the bigotry of Christians that woke me up.

I believe that children of atheists would more likely be atheists ONLY because their parents would have encouraged free thinking and research.

I'm an atheist, and at the time I discovered that both my parents were Christians.

Following that logic, I assume the reverse can also be true. =D

Personally that would make me more likely to look into religion. Their lack of concern/belief would compel me to seek out my own answers about life.

information that religiosity isn't genetic? Or is it in basic terms an exception to the guideline? it may be, in my view, incredibly hassle-loose for a 15 year previous who up till some years in the past incredibly believed in Santa Clause, Boogie adult males, Ghosts and different thoroughly stupid issues. What severe thinking skills does a 15 year previous newborn, in maximum circumstances, have. All nonbelievers would be delivered till now Jesus and killed. How unlucky for her. Kill Nonbelievers They entered right into a covenant to seek for the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and every person who does no longer seek for the Lord, the God of Israel, became to be positioned to loss of life, no be counted if small or great, no be counted if man or woman.
