Don't look upon it as a boring job. Do it to the very best of your ability and become the best. After all you have to do the job to earn money and are lucky to have a job. Be outstanding at it. It will become less boring.

There's 2 types of boring jobs: 1- the boring job that is boring but busy, but boring. 2- the boring job that is boring because there's nothing to do. Mine's the latter, but i've been in situation #1 many times. If you'll be in #1, get a cd player/mp3 player/portable radio and hook yourself up to some good music while working. You must also take lots of short breaks, otherwise you'll go nuts. Talk to people, joking around with your coworkers and pulling pranks on each other while working eases the pain and makes your day go by quickly. There's another school of thought that dictates that you should find something you like about your boring job, and enjoy doing it. If you'll be in #2, like i am, here's a few things: - if you have a computer: keep a blog, play lots of online games, read news, reasearch stuff so you educate yourself - listen to music - talk to your coworkers, pull pranks on them. - get a comfortable chair

Well, if you have a boring job, during your job you can day dream about exactly what a realistic good job you should get next. Use your time to help you figure out what you like and don't like with your current job and your life in general. Create a plan of attack for you to get that better job and then once you are off work, go after it!

I'm in the same predicament. What I do to cope with it is, going to college. I know in my mind that I won't be doing this job for the rest of my life because I am educating myself in a field in which I will have a career one day.
Doing my present (incredibly boring) job, is just a necessary evil for the time being. Most of the time I'm at work I am learning and planning for the future.

Think about it as just that, its something that pays the bills, if you're not happy there's nothing stopping you from looking elsewhere, the thought that you wont be in the same job forever will keep you going, if you don't want to leave then take up a hobby or course will you will also look forward to because your life wont revolve around work

Think of the job in a different way. If it is boring and routine, then you probably don't need to work long hours and get stressed out as a lot of people do in their jobs.
So you will have a better social life and can have work-life balance.

Keep on going into work every day, do the best you can and keep your mind active whilst you are working. Get the local paper, surf empoyment sites on the Internet etc. Apply for other positions. Have fun attending interviews. It gives you a goal and a purpose. Something to aim for. It can be awkward telling your boss that you want to leave - even in appraisals and even if your boss is modern and forward-thinking.
I never minded my staff telling me that they were bored and pissed-off. It kept me on my toes and, if I wanted to keep them in my department, I made sure that I gave them more interesting and challenging work. As their job description permitted.
Hang on in there. If you are looking for a better job, something WILL happen for you!

Well I about 2 days a week at my Mum's store [during the holidays], and it is very boring.
I listen to music, and only put one earphone in so i can still hear the customers.
It used to get me in trouble with touchy customers, so i wear my hair down to cover it, and they're none the wiser..[unless a really good headbanging song comes on, then it becomes pretty obvious hehe].

Most jobs have their boring bits, like the washing up. But the washing up still has to be done, so it has to be put up with. But there's a difference between boring mindless jobs, and boring jobs which require concentration, like sorting post. With mindless jobs, like washing up, you can think interesting thoughts... plan your next novel.
Some firms let you put in suggestions as to how to overcome problems like boredom. eg they give factory workers the opportunity to suggest reorganisation of the lines. Try to think of a better way to do thejob, and see if "them upstairs" are receptive to new ideas. If not, look for another job.

If you have no option but to stay in the job then the rest of your life has to become more exciting and fulfilling. Other interests could become your big passion - anything at all, eg fishing, stamp collecting, salsa dancing, poetry, cookery.
