Would I be able to house any other species(besides chinchilla) with my female chinchilla? She's around 4 years. What I'm most interested in getting is a degu, do those house well(in the same cage) with a chinchilla? Or any other species of small pet? Or is it just impossible/unwise to put them with another species critter?

I was reading about what to feed them, and they can have chinchilla food as there main pellet-based diet, and they eat hay too.

Chinchilla is a nocturnal animal, a degu diurnal. So I would'n put these two animals together. Other thing is they don't understand each other's "language"

You're best off keeping single species together to minimize the risk of fighting. There's a high chance chinchillas would fight with degu, plus they need different diets, if your chinchilla got hold of the degu food it could make her ill, and vice versa.

NO, stop!
please dont put a degu in a cage with a chinchilla, they will eventually fight adn it will be fatal!

ive tried my chinchillas in their play area with other animals, but always slower more docile animals, even so i would dream of putting them in a more confined space and would never leav them alone together.

only another chinchilla will do .

It is never recommended to house two different species together in the same cage--they will usually be incompatible and fighting is common. As long as they each have their own home, they may learn to co-exist outside of the cage as long as they have escape potential and are not forced on each other.
