If I eat very little and do alot of running, will I get washboard abs? I am 6'1" and weigh 145 pounds. If I take in very little calories (aka only what I eat for dinner), drink alot of water, and do running for 3 hours in the morning and 1 hour before bed, after dinner, could I get washboard abs in 4 weeks? Also, would they be soft (flabby) or hard? Thanks.

'Washboard' abs are very tricky to get; in over 14 years boxing, I never had them despite being able to take body shots especially well.
I've since done several years body-building and finally discovered the secret! It's about body-fat, NOT the amount of exercise you do. Your own programme is unnecessarily tough. Firstly, by limiting your calorific intake, you'll only slow down your metabolism, which will hinder the loss of excess fat. You need to eat three regular meals and snack (if you must) only on fruit. High calorie breakfast, medium calorie dinner and low calorie supper. Drink slightly more water than you're used to. The golden rule is to follow this regime BUT count your calories; your normal daily amount is 2000 cals per day for a sedentary lifestyle. The more activity you do, the more you will need but listen to your body: ONLY eat when you're hungry, and NEVER eat rubbish e.g. sweets, fatty foods, chips, etc. To lose all the excess body fat you have, you'll need to be taking in LESS calories than you're using up i.e. you want to be going *slightly* hungry between meals and to bed, and only ever feeling 'full' after breakfast.

The thinking behind this is that the last place for body fat to go from men is their stomach - so even if you're in great shape, as I was as a boxer, it takes that last little push of dedication to enable those ab muscles to show through. Everyone has them, they are merely normally hidden!

Do some specialised ab exercises e.g. sit-ups with feet under the edge of the bed or some such, legs bent; ab crunches (lie flat on back with knees up, curl your upper body off the floor, hold for one second and lower, then repeat until you're in AGONY! :) Do this often. Another is using a chinning bar: hang from bar and raise the knees to chest, hold, then lower and repeat. Do a few sets. One of those exercise balls is a cheap device to help you work your abs. Follow the programme you get with it; you can watch the telly while you're at it!

If you eat very little, you will have a hard time running for even the one hour before bed. Your body needs fuel to work. Running does not particularly affect the abs. So the answer to your question is a qualified no. You will not get washboard abs by running a lot and eating very little.

You are too thin; but, to get washboard abs, you need to do the type of exercises that target that area. Running will not do it.

If you do that you will end up in the hospital. Abs come from how much body fat you have. It has nothing to do with how much you weigh or how skinny you are. You need to rethink what you are doing. Eating very little and exercising alot is just a accident waiting to happen.

Eat three meals a day. Especially breakfast. Make them healthy. Lots of protein and vitamins. Drink water, I drink about a gallon a day and run over 15 miles. Don't skip meals it messes with your body's metabolism, and processes. Do crunches.

You have to eat at least 1200-1500 calories to lose weight safely and effectively. Also I wouldn't run that much unless you are already a runner. But the most important part of losing weight is being healthy.

Why not just shoot yourself?

You are WAY TOO THIN already. You don't need to diet, you need to do crunches. Lots of crunches. There is no such thing as "soft/flabby" muscle.

You should gain at least 10lbs.

in the journey that your canines is working around, you will possibly desire to offer it longer walks or play with it some extra to burn capability. Its no longer relaxing to havean under-exercised canines working around.....they get to be a bigg handful. x x x
