They grab for straws to hang on to like someone who is really desperate for something to prove their faith in horrific events that shake their beliefs in a LOVING GOD.

If the school bus HAD fallen into the river, what would these twits be saying then? That it was God's will for children to die? That the fact that they died quickly is proof of God's existence? That it was time for them to go to heaven, so God took them all at once? Probably some combination of all of those. They simply cannot accept that sometimes bad things happen to people for no divine reason, the same way animals get hit by cars or eaten by predators.
Why do Christians bother praying whenever a tragedy happens? They say that God has a plan, and killing innocent people--including, in most cases, children--is somehow part of that plan; but then they think they can alter that plan by praying for people whom God might not want them to pray for! How do they know it isn't God's will for the survivors, friends, and relatives to suffer? He seems to have no problem letting bridges collapse, hurricanes destroy cities, or earthquakes kill thousands at a time, so why wouldn't he be happy to sit back and watch the victims' loved ones suffer?

They most likely all said the same thing to Noah during the 120 years it took him to construct the ark. They didn't believe him either and they all died. The people,of Sodom and Gomorrah didn't believe either and they all died too! The Lord says that you are without excuse as the very creation everywhere testifies of His existence. How do you imagine all this got here in the first place? What are you planing to say to the Lord when you stand before Him in judgment? Scripture tells us that we shall all appear before the judgment seat of the Lord. You call us insane but the Lord calls you a fool "only the fool hath said in his heart that there is no God." I suggest you read Matthew 24 and then take a good look at the world situation of today and compare the two.

Got to agree. An omnipotent deity would have made sure that NO one was on the bridge when it collapsed. Better yet, he'd have made it such that the bridge NEVER failed at all.
But the idiots out there will nod their sheep-like heads and agree with her.
Of course this is the same moronic woman who actually asked a homeless kid during Katrina "admit it, this is kind of fun isn't it"?
People like this simply have NO clue about the real world.

Not every Christian believes that God dabbles in our everyday lives like that. God doesn't pick and choose who dies and who lives any more than he decides who wins the Super Bowl when both teams kneel to pray. What do they pray for, to win?! There is, indeed a God, and he is pained by the world and mankind's choices and by all the calamity and discord, and He has a plan in action to take care of all of that.. but where we look heaven ward and wonder 'why not now?' God is making certain that any who want a relationship with Him will have to time to do just that.
I am awake... WIDE awake to the times we are living in. Are you?

So God can keep the school bus safe but not prevent the bridge from collapsing and ten others from dying? Answer to this question is, things could have been a whole lot worse. And they weren't...whether God had his hand in this only he knows. Just like 9/11, things could have been worse...but, I do know for a fact God was there during, and after. It doesn't mean God caused 9/11, it just means God doesn't leave us when he knows we will be needing him the most.

what would have been the real clincher here would have been if all of the kids were Muslim, Pagan, Jewish, or some other identifiable faith than Christian. That would have changed what that guy said, I think.
it is a terrible tragedy - and even more tragic that we value some lives over others - it is beyond sad that anyone died. there were no miracles here - just people. some didn't have the opportunity to escape injury or death, some did.
what is a miracle is that now Lindsey Lohan isn't front page news.

That may be just the kind of thing people in authority come up with when faced with a reporter. They can't say something hard or it will look bad and they might get sacked. They have to say upbeat things normally. Even if untrue or just a platitude it gives people a bit more strength.
You'd probably have to be his friend to know what he really thought. And these issues are tough.

I agree.
What you said reminded me of when I was a child at church one day. A member of the congregation, and friend of the minister had been ripped off by a con-artist for a few thousand dollars. The con had taken off interstate, and was killed in a car accident on the way. They all praised the Lord!! Pretty disturbing. What happened to love thy neighbour, and turning the other cheek...or love those that hate you etc?

Each of us must act insane every once in a while, just to take the edge off of rude realities too painful to bear.
Fortunately, God is more likely to speak to us than any of us is likely to speak on behalf of God. Thus, every day, every sort of religious person, agnostic, and aetheist has its thousands of people who make seemingly insane statements. Let's just laugh at them and enjoy the sideshow.

God has a plan, but it is not for us to know. He had a reason for saving those school children. Just trust him. Those people who died were taken for a reason and, if they had accepted Jesus as their savior, they are beside God in heaven now and in a better place.
That was me trying my hand at a standard Christian answer... how'd I do? Makes no sense to me really.
