I had my belly button pierced and nearly fainted!
I also have three tattoos, and honestly, the piercing was much worse!!
I have one on my lower back (my first), my hip and my ankle...It is much less painfull to have a tattoo on bone than muscle!!
The only wierd thing is that when they went over my spine, It made my teeth chatter!
The worst bit about a tattoo is the outline, but that doesn't last long and after they've done that you can hardly feel the rest!!

I had my first tattoo done at 17 and I remember that I was chewing a big wad of gum that day. When they began doing the tattoo, I began channeling the weird sharp rubbing feeling into the gum I was chewing (I'd chew harder). The tattoo artist said I handled the pain pretty well so I suggest you take gum with you. As for the pain, I can compare it to taking a sharp pencil and rubbing it various times in the same area. I doesn't really hurt it just "bothers" so it's really much more of an annoying feeling than an actual pain. I had mine done near my pelvis area and that area is considered extra sensitive. The lower back I believe should be more resistant to the tattooing.

I have one on my lower back, and the most painful part was right near my butt crack. Other than that it wasn't to bad. I mean of course it hurt, but not so bad I was screaming and crying, in fact I was reading a magazine the whole time I was getting work done (about 2 hours). Try deap breathing, if it hurts consentrate on taking long deep breaths.
And no matter what everyone tells you, it's not going to make the nervousnes go away. I was soooooo nervous when I got my first tattoo (and it dosen't bother me to get shots, or have blood drawn). And it hurt more than my lower back tattoo (it was on my upper back) and I think alot of that had to do with the fact that it was my first tattoo.

The main line drawing like what you're talking about is a little uncomfortable. It actually feels like a needle dragging across your skin. Each person handles pain differently. My best friend and I had ours done on the same day. She cried and screamed at times and fidgeted a lot which made it worse. I just dealt with it. The shading in part (if you get colors goes fast and doesn't really hurt.) And the feeling after their done is all warm and delicious. I've got 4 tatts and am getting #5 in 2 weeks!

Lower back tattoos are not bad. There are a few spots that hurt a little, but overall it's more annoying than painful. The belly is worse, so you should be fine.

I use to work down at a shop and some of the best advice I can give you is to take a few Tylenol about 20 mins before you go. You don't want to take aspirin because it thins your blood. and try not to bring in a bunch of people with you if you just try to space out it really helps and know it will be over soon and you will love it! Get a hold of me if you get it, I have some great ways to make sure they heal perfectly.

i got several. the pain is all different. i mean of course its scarey cause its painful. but it feels like when your kitty does theat kneading scratching thing when its happy and purring. kitty scratches. and it numbs up after a while.
i fell asleep during three of mine. the only one i wont ever get redone is my foot. thats was bad...
piercing is PUNCTURING our skin. i have several several tattoos and piercing scares the living crap out of me. i wont do it.
literally and honestly - kitty scratches...
not a stabbing pain... its just the top of the skin. the only reason my lowerback (1st tattoo) hurt was cause i had 4 back injuries (3 times i broke my tailbone) prior to the tattoo and it wasnt bad at all... i laughed the entire way through cause it was a new wierd feeling...

You'll be glad you did it when it's over with.
The tattoo artist will stop every few seconds to wipe excess ink off and that gives you a break from the pain. You can deal with it!
Tell him if you need a break.

I had mine done...It feels more like hot heat, like a sun burn than anything else..I didn't cry but I did keep gum in my mouth to bite on. It only feels like heat at the point he is working on. Once he stops its gone. The artist can give you breaks if you need it.
Here is mine..You sound like you were looking for something like mine...I didn't want anything big either and mine is on my lower back.
If you need the art work..let me know..
