What do you say to a 5 year old little boy when his mother gives him a dollor for collection plate, and when the collection plate comes around to him, He would not give up the dollor, and demanded to know why he is giving away his dollor, When someone explained to him why? He shook his head and said EXCUSE ME I THOUGHT THIS WAS NOT ONLY THE GOOD LORDS HOUSE, BUT MY HOUSE AS WELL, SO WHY DO I HAVED TO PAY TO BE IN CHURCH? What do you say to that 5 old little boy?

I'd tell him "Atta boy, if our church didn't have to pay out all that money to the pedophile victims, the church wouldn't need to pass the collection plate around" Which makes me kinda laugh, thinking that by putting all that money in the plate, the congregation is unknowingly (?) condoning their priest's actions by funding the payouts to the victims past, and more than likely future. Blind fools.

First, the parent should have explained that to the child before leaving for church. He should know what it's for, and it's certainly not an admission fee. Monies rendered to the church should be for three primary reasons: 1. Tithing, the Lord's command for his followers to give ten percent of their income for the purpose of building up his kingdom, usually through more church construction; 2. A voluntary contribution that can go to a variety of known causes such as humanitarian aid to a seriously affected population; 3. An offering following or during a fast.

Ultimately, such gestures are not demonstrations of adhering to a law of money, but to a law of faith. You'd be surprised how much a child that young can understand such things.

This sounds like a fantastic teaching opportunity. First, I would make sure that you know how your church allocates its funds and then communicate that information to your son in a kid-friendly way. For instance, you could walk him around the Sunday school classroom and ask how they were able to purchase his paper, crayons, markers, puppets, etc...
Walk him around the church and point out all the things that the church purchases especially those things that are of interest to him.
Show him pictures of missionaries that your church supports. Show him pictures of children that your missionaries minister to.
I hope this helps.

"Suddenly there will be that crushing pain in your chest or the crashing of glass. In a microsecond, everything will change. You will be translated from the temporary to the eternal. The prosperity message will have lost its luster. And no doubt, some of us will wonder why we didn't spend more time investing in that which is eternal."

I find what you say hard to believe. First, It's been my experience that children are anxious to put money in the plate it's a little thrill for them. Second, I can't believe a child of 5 can would state so articulately why he doesn't want to fork over the dollar.

Tell him that we all contribute. Nothing is free in life and bills have to be paid.

I cannot imagine a five year old speaking like that in church unless he had heard these things at home. This is not a natural or normal way of talking; especially for a five year old.

Tell him that for the privilege of being able to use the church, everyone must give a little. But do not tell him that God wants him to give money. God doesn't need the money. It is used to maintain the church. God only wants you to give to him what he gives to you-love. No money involved.

Just tell him that the house has a maintainence and money is needed to buy kids like him doughnuts and treats so everyone contributes to maintain the expense of that "house" which is also his. They will understand.

Tell him that his mother did not give the dollar to him for himself, she gave it to him to give to the church. And it is not his house, it's the Lord's house, so stop acting rude.

Ask him if his mother/father gave him the money to put in. (even if you already know that they did) Then ask him if you knows that one of Gods Ten Commandment is "Honor thy father and they mother" Explain to him, that when he doesn't put the money in the plate they way that his parents want him to, he is braking God's law, and sinning. If you still refuses, call in his mum.
