punk in my era hmmmm...its just a look now its just about looking 'punk' to attract attention it no longer means what it did in the beginning there is no linger that anger, atitude towards gov. or mainstream soviety now its just about 'hooking up' with girls or vice versa and yes johnny rotten has finally sold out he might as well go on american idol and be a judge.

I don't listen to punk anymore, but in High School it was the only thing that I would listen to in the morning (I have since discovered the wonders of caffeine). I was never a big Johny Rotten fan, and I am less of one now.

Punk in the 1950s and 1960s meant a rotten no good young kid, the same in the 1970s but it was a movement and an identity, the blacks say 'punk' meaning 'gay' or homosexual, so that is my take on it...I was not of the Punk movement but my husband was...I have always been outside all movements...

Punk is

1. A young impudent human despising society in general and parents in particular.

2. A type of rock music speaking to definition 1.

3. That thing you set fire to so you can light sparklers on the 4th of July.

4. A fashion and cultural marketing scheme aimed at separating punks from their hard earned money.

I was a punk, I listened to punk, I lit punks but I never bought punk.

Yes, Mr Rotten has moved from definition 2 to definition 4.

Been and gone it is. Though it was a most welcome breath of fresh air at the time.

And punk was during my 'middle age', some time back. So 'finally' hardly does the man justice. Even Vivienne Westwood's more punk than our Johnny these days I'd say.

A punk is a kid [in my era] who thinks he's tougher and smarter than I think he is. For the folk who spent time in jail a punk was a man who'd been 'taken over' by another man.

"Finally" sold out? Man, they basically only started Sex Pistols to make money, he's always been a sellout. He's all like "The revolution will be televised" for some crappy music contest with Bif Naked. What a croc.
