when I mentioned that Germanic settlers in Pennsylvania are referred to as Pennsylvania Dutch? I didn't pick the term out of my hat.

I don't know. I've heard the term used many times myself. Not like you called someone a square head.

My grandparents were both pennsylvania dutch and united empire loyalists.

I think the people who thumb's downed you didn't know what that was.

If the question was "what are Pennsylvanian Dutch" the answer is perfectly fine.
