Well first of all, where is this "place?" Does it exist in the physical universe?
The laws of science tells us that energy can neither be created or destroyed... it only changes forms. Is there a similar law that applies to concious beings such as ourselves? Afterall, what is conciousness if not energy?
I guess my bottom line is that there may be some sort of life after death... I don't know. But I don't believe that you or anyone else knows either. Cetainly not the primative people who lived thousands of years ago who wrote the Bible. Until then, I will have to trust the 5 senses that I was "created" with. In my 35 years, I have not seen, heard, tasted, touched or smelled any evidence that leads me to believe that heaven is real.

It takes intelligence and deep thought to contemplate an after life. It is much easier to say we are just matter with awareness that ceases to be aware when the energy leaves this form. Since enough people in science only report on what they observe... or at least that is what they say. They thereorize possibiltys based on partial observations and are more than ready to offer that partial infromation up as fact but are more afraid to offer "spiritual" possibilitys. Not because of the "proof" factor but the "acceptabilty" factor.

Because it makes perfect sense. Do you have trouble believing in an afterlife for animals? For insects? Of course you do. Why should we have a different eventuality? Consciousness is a phenomenon of bio-chemical reactions within the brain. When the body ceases to function, so does the mind; they are inseparable. No need to be frightened by this. Give your own meaning to your life--you occupy this time and space.

Which is more comforting to believe that there is a wonderful place to be beyond death or that death is final. So we believe that death isn't the end. It also keeps those who are at the bottom of society something to look forward to - and maybe takes their mind off their plight.

if you become nothingness, you would not care whether you were a live or dead. by the way I was an atheist once, now I am covered in the blood. 2 corinthians 4:4 explains why they are all blinded, (the god of this world is satan) man he had me so bequiled, I didn't believe in him either and he was the one that was blinding me.

Why would you think that? Don't they have graveyards, crematoria and dustbins where you are?
But if you meant why do I think that no part of 'me' continues after death, well it's to do with the lack of evidence for such a thing.
Why do you think the opposite I wonder? When all the information we have to date points to it all coming to an end once brain electrochemical activity has ceased. In fact, that's pretty much the accepted defining point for death. And yet you choose to disagree it appears. Hmm ...

There is most definitely a place where I will go after I die! It's a cemetery plot just outside of Madison, Wisconsin. I have one extra plot. Would you like one?

I can't speak for all of us, but generally we don't believe in the supernatural (i.e., something which supposedly exists despite lack of evidence).
