When I was growing up, my uncle Jack (r.i.p.) had a 'King Dobermann' named Rommel. He was red with a white blaze on his chest and as big as a Great Dane. He was from AKC National Grand Champion Bloodlines, so he was really well bred. I have been searching for one for a long time now, but can't find any for sale. I heard about one litter of them in Missouri, but it didn't check out; they were nothing more than big red dobes. I want a purebred King Doberman, does anone know where I can find one?

Look, people, no need to be so rude. I'm not a little girl anymore, I'm all grown up and I know what I know. And there are, or were, King Dobermanns because my unlce's bit me. Besides, I just called my aunt (who is 88 years old) and she told me that Rommel was a King Dobermann and that his father, AKC National Grand Champion Fritz's Panzer, was a top producing sire for 3 straight years. She can't remember Rommel's mother's name, though ... but that doesn't matter, anyway. If you don't know the answer to my question then you don't know. I'm sure other people have owned King Dobermanns (red with white markings). So just shut up, you are making me sooo mad by being so rude.

The now defunct 'Accredited Kennel Club' still has a few die hard members/breeders, and yes, they are still breeding the rare King Dobermann. If I remember correctly, it started as a cross between the Dobe and Dane, then backcrossed back to the Dobe, then bred forward from there.

This breeding did two things ... it gave the Dobe more skull (which reduced the incidents of rage syndrom) and it gave the dog a bit more bone and muscle mass. I'm betting your uncle's dog was very well built.

Anyway, if you want, I can put you in contact with a breeder and you can go from there. And you're right about many here being rude ... of course there are King Dobermanns.

Hi there.. The name mini Dobermann Pinscher is often used, but is miss named. There is no such dog. The breed you are looking for is a Miniature Pinscher . They are not related to the Dobermann in any way. The word 'Pinscher' is the German word for 'Terrier'. They are a small German terrier. In 1836, Dr. H. G. Reinchenbach, a German writer, stated the Miniature Pinscher is a cross of the Dachshund and the Italian Greyhound. This conclusion of Dr. Reinchenbach is now generally accepted by historians and those who have researched the background of the breed. In any event, Germany is undisputed as the home of origin, where the Miniature Pinscher was known as the "Reh Pinscher" due to its resemblance to a small red deer, the Reh, which freely roamed the German forests many years ago. This proud little dog is often referred to as "The King of Toys". The Miniature Pinscher is an assertive, outgoing, active and independent breed. Fearless animation, complete self-possession, and spirited presence describe the Miniature Pinscher to a T.

There isn't much DP doesn't know about these beautiful dogs. And I have never heard of King Dobermans!

I suspect that this breeder is selling her line as such because she has bred them too big in the first place. She also falsely claiming Champion status. I personally wouldn't do any business with this breeder. she is unethical at the very least and she is also breeding out of standard!

There is no such thing as a purebred Doberman with a white blaze on their chest. Any white on a Doberman other than a 1" area on the chest is a disqualification. What you are describing sounds like a pretty name for a Doberman mix. There are no King Dobermans.

Just because the people your Uncle got the dog from claimed it was a "king Doberman" does not mean that they exist. And like I said, a white chest would be a disqualification. By your own admission, you cannot find any evidence of them on the internet. Did you ever ask yourself why you cannot find any? Perhaps it's because there are none.

I also find it funny that you insist they exist, yet many people who know pretty much all there is to know about dogs have told you there are none.

There are king dobermans in fact I know a breeder. At first a dude wanted a larger more muscler doberman so they took the biggest and breed it to a dane. the pups were lage and so were breed to more dobermans producing big mutts. they just kept breeding them to other dobermans and they became a breed. There are king dobermans and the white marking does not mean it wasn't a pure breed it means their was white markings in the dogs past. Trust me My friend is a breeder and I have two Sherlock and Watson.

No such thing as a "king" doberman.. that is a label used by backyard breeders and millers to describe an oversized dog. I think now they are called "warlock" dobermans.

Your Uncles dog may have had good lines, but that doesnt mean he was "well bred" Sometimes bad breeders get their hands on a few decent dogs, just so they can label their dogs as "CH bloodlines". A truely "well bred" dog meets standard as close as it can.. even a "well bred" pet quality dog will only have a few minor faults.

He was an oversized dog, and dobermans also do not have white markings... its highly possible this dog wasnt purebred either.. some breeders will falsify papers just to sell anything.

Personally, Id stay away from anyone purposly breeding dogs that do not meet standards. They are probably not doing health testing (OFA and CERF) to assure genetically sound dogs. If you want a doberman, look for a doberman.. find a reputable breeder or rescue. If you want a giant breed, look for a giant breed.. there are rescues and reputable breeders for them too.

There is no such thing as a "king" Doberman. That was/is a name given to oversized Dobermans by irresponsible people. It also sounds like the people who sold the dog years ago to your relatives wanted to capitalize on someone elses breeding..so he had AKC champion lines..so does every dog somewhere in it's pedigree..they mean nothing unless they are in at least the first 3 generations and/or the resulting dogs that were bred came from responsible breeders.
Also be advised red & white is NOT a recognized Doberman color..it is a major fault.. King Dobermans are dogs that are NOT bred to breed standard and anyone breeding them/selling them is irresponsible and not breeding ethically.
Please go to the AKC site and look at the Doberman Standard.

You may be "all grown up" and "know what you know," but that doesn't change the fact that there is no such breed as a King Dobermann. No one here is being rude about it, they are simply trying to educate you. If you don't believe us, do a google or yahoo search on "king doberman" and I guarantee that 99% of the sites you get will be about how there is no such thing as a "King Doberman." Search the AKC website (www.akc.org)...after all, if you are looking for an AKC breed of any kind that would be a good place to start. The AKC website has contact information for every breed that they recognize.

"Size, Proportion, Substance
Height at the withers: Dogs 26 to 28 inches, ideal about 27½ inches; Bitches 24 to 26 inches, ideal about 25½ inches. The height, measured vertically from the ground to the highest point of the withers, equalling the length measured horizontally from the forechest to the rear projection of the upper thigh. Length of head, neck and legs in proportion to length and depth of body.

Color and Markings
Allowed Colors: Black, red, blue, and fawn (Isabella). Markings: Rust, sharply defined, appearing above each eye and on muzzle, throat and forechest, on all legs and feet, and below tail. White patch on chest, not exceeding ½ square inch, permissible. Disqualifying Fault: Dogs not of an allowed color."

The preceding two paragraphs are a direct quote from the AKC Doberman breed standard. Any dog "as big as a Great Dane" with a "white blaze on his chest" (unless this "blaze is very small, which is not the impression I get from your description) would be severely penalized in a dog show. Also, the only AKC titles with the words "National Champion" anywhere in them are field titles (for working gun or hunting or retrieving dogs) and obedience titles.
