Airliner fuel is primairily kerosene based jet fuel. Ship fuel is mainly diesel which is mainly a much lower grade of fuel.

When crude oil is pumped up from the ground, the first batch always is Jet Fuel, second batch would be Gasoline, thirdly would be Diesel, and lastly the residual would become Petroleum Jelly. Overall, Jet Fuel is the most costly of all fuels, mainly it costs the most to produce.

The prices of various grades of crude are about the same. The prices of the fuels mentioned will vary widely from place to place depending on how far it has to be shipped to the end user.
