Oh good, a question for me to do some soul searching. Let see....I love being a Chinese or I am proud to be born a Chinese because:-

-ours is one of the oldest civilisation in the world.
-we have a rich history, heritage and culture.
-our language is the most widely spoken in the world.
-our name and language are our identity.
-we are adaptable because we can live in any part of the world.
-we have some of the best cuisine in the world not to mention the varieties of it.
-lastly, we are distinguishable by our language, looks, names and culture.

A Chinese will always be known as "long de chuan ren" literally means "descendant of the dragon".

Edit:
This is a reply to Joriental;
You have done some research, my friend. Yes, Yuan dynasty and Qing dynasty were ruled by Mongols and Manchurians respectively. And now, comes a question as a food for thought:-

Can anyone tell me which dynasty does all the Chinese in this world descends from?

Edit #2:-
Ai Leen2003hk has answered perfectly. All Chinese or should I say, most Chinese anyway, are descendants of the Han. That's why we are called Han Ren. In Cantonese, it is called Hon Yan.

Ai Leen, well done. Actually, I already know the answer but I just want to ask to see how many people knows. I'm a Cantonese too.

I'm a natural born Chinese and the main reason I love being a Chinese is because we have a rich history 5000 years and the technology in our history really stunned a lot of the people that it took more than a hundred years for the Western countries to catch up. the Chinese words are complicated to many Western people, but it has a lot of meaning in a word with different parts combining to make a different meaning word. Many sceneries in our country cannot be found in other countries and I especially love our country's animal symbol "Panda"!!!

Food, language (although I can only speak basic Cantonese) and celebrations (Forget about paying respects to the ansectors as I'm about to be a Christian) are the reasons why I should be proud of being Chinese.

I'm proud mostly as a Chinese and willing to work in China and make my mother country to be a better place to live, I believe if everyone's doing his/her good, we could achieve our goals.

P.S. to Shiori Tomoe

Early back before Xia/Shang Dynasty! We were known as Hua-Xia and started one of the oldest civilization in Central Huang he (Yellow River) area.

You may check the link about the great dynasties of China I put up there which may give you some information about Chinese History.

Although Yuan and Qing were not ruled by Han "ren", the majority of populaces in those two dynasties were still Han "ren"!

Even now... the majority of populaces in China is still Han "ren"!
