I've been quite idle for a couple of months now, and a while ago, I played basketball for a few minutes. I wasn't able to stretch my neck - so when I played, although, there were no big hits to my body, the left side of my neck became painful.

When i'm not moving it, there's no pain, but as I twist it, there's a stinging pain on the left side. It's very painful when I twist my neck; and the pain remains only on the left side. The right side is completely normal.

If you have damaged your neck in any way, and it appears that you have, you need to go to the appropriate specialist. Neck injuries are serious and your pain can be a whole host of things. Get treatment now. You can do yourself serious harm or it may be something that can be treated simply. Whichever the sooner you get treatment, the better the outcome will be. To the best of my knowledge damage to your spinal column or to a disk usually has symtoms that radiate further out to your extremities (your face). I had a bad neck injury and had major trouble with my hands. A disk had slipped and was pressing against my spinal cord. Just remember if it is nerve damage, nerves regenerate but you need to find out what is wrong first, then you can heal. Good luck.

you have strained a muscle...Hot and cold packs alternatively will help... try a bath in epsom salts... drink plenty of water to help wash the lactic acid that buids up in muscles and rub Arnica on the muscle a few time a day. Arnica can be found in most health food sections.
