I got plenty of them... which i got before i embraced my beliefs in God. So, i could only hope that i'm forgiven for them by now, but until i get them off do you believe i will not be granted heaven for it? Ironically enough, they are religious symbols, however, (some aren't but those are just tribal arm bands) which are a cross and a scarab (Egyptian symbol for eternal life: off sidedly religious).

The way i see it though, is now they are just a part of me and if i were to get them taken off that would also be considered abusing the "body as a temple" because laser removal is somewhat damaging...

I just figure if i dedicate my body to God using symbols and such that He'd be okay with it :\....

Basically, i really like tattoos :(

Honey with the world as it is today, a tatoo is the least of God's worries about mankind.
If you like tatoos and yours are tasteful and not blasphemy I think you'll be just fine.
The body is a temple you just chose to decorate.

Tattoo were

to mark ownership of a slave,

to mark a habitual criminal,

to mark a believer in certain pagan sects.

Tattoos often reflect the thinking and beliefs of a person. Young people get tattoos to impress or woo. Values change as a person grows and believes.

Like I remember this little girl I went to grade school with she always got cracker jacks and put on the included tattoo. What if these were permanent as she grew older she would have had them and never been able to become who she later became - model.

Same goes for many people today - who they are today is not who they will mature into. I say this is true for you also.

God knows this about your tattoos. You may not have got these today and those you are thinking about getting you may not get tomorrow.

You're right that tattoos aren't a tribute to you or God, and certainly don't look holy. However, what's done is done, and if you move on from it, God will certainly overlook your mistakes and your body and judge only your heart. I don't know many people who have the money for laser removal. Go with it, know it's a mistake. If younger kids in the faith ask, let them know you regret it so they don't make the same mistake. God bless.

Wow, I'm in a similar boat as you!

I have 5 tats that I got before I became a Muslim. They are all spiritually symbolic and represent important transitions in my life. I also really, really enjoyed getting tattooed.

This is what I explained to my born-Muslim fiance. I could go pay money to have them removed, but wouldn't that money be better spent donated to an orphanage or feeding the hungry? And since I don't have an abundance of money to spend on cosmetic surgery, then my charity is better spent on helping those in need. In addition, mine are all small and inconspicuous.

Whatever you do before giving your life to God is wiped clean, according to Islam.

Tattoos are supposed to symbolize something in your life. I'm assuming you got them with a reason behind each one. If that is the case, they indeed are a part of you. It may be a past part but it brought you to where you are now so they can be looked upon as stepping stones on the path of life.

No. GOD does not accept worship through your tattoos. However, since they are a part of your past an you DO NOT desire to add new tattoos, you will be fine. GOD will give you a new body anyway, without tattoos.

GOD bless

Dear, many adult converts have done things to their bodies; they just aren't as visible as tattoos. What matters most is the state of your soul. If you've been given the impression that you must incur even further risk to your health by removing them before you get your ticket to heaven, please inform whoever told you this that they are in error. If you want to remove any of your tats for reasons of your own, fine; but as far as most of us are concerned, as a believer you are our brother just as you are.

Up until very recently the overwhelming majority of tattoos were on people who were either in prison or the military or both. I suggest that you sincerely read the following resource for more information:

there is nothing wrong with tattoos! Mine all represent something about me. My triquetra, my shamrocks, my purple rose. They are me and nothing is wrong with that.
