it wasnt my PS3 tho. I wouldnt waste my money on something i couldnt play PS2 games on or something that will lgiht on fire after 5 or 6 hours(cuz i play for like 12 hours(its summer)) So im pretty sure they r making a mistake by making it like $500, most kids dont have it and some of the games are going away.

that a myth. even if you wanted it to get lit on fire you would first have to be stupid to put in in an enclosed area so the heat would just rotate and not leave maybe in an entertainment center with the door close or on the floor. but you got to remember that the ps3 has an auto shut off if it get to hot it will turn off before it does any damages. so i think either your friend is lying or if it did burn he lit it on fire with the over stove lighter what he wanted to use to light it on fire or maybe he was being careless and drop his drink on it. my ps3 is on top of my shelf by itself underneather i have my ps2 and i play both console and the ps3 i play more than 5 hours and my isn't burned or anything i actually left it on for more than 24 hours and it didn't burn when i got home left it on by accident. so i would have to question what really happen to your friend ps3 and if it did light on fire there would be a recall and i know his ps3 would be replace by sony. the ps3 would play your sly and ratchet games and it does play ps1 and 2 games just not all but i'm sure if you got a ps3 you wouldn't worry to much about your ps2 and 1 games.....i still play my ps2 games but the one that are burn and won't work on my ps3........MYTH

Although it's possible for a PS3 and any other game system to catch fire, it'd take MUCH more than five hours to do so. Your friend was most likely lying or the system wasn't being used properly (i.e. using the wrong adapter to hook the system up with, system was soaked in kerosene, etc).

Well, video game consoles do generate a lot of heat, so it wouldn't be good to play for that long (for a lot of reasons, actually). If it starts making that whirring noise, shut it off immediately. That'll keep your PS3 lasting longer.

Your friend witnessed this conflagration, you say? If they saw it catch on fire, so it must be true. Be careful. Maybe you got a defective one!

Considering i played Oblivion once for about 18hrs straight, i don't think so.

Funnily enough, the early 360 did have a faulty power lead which was recalled because it could overheat and set on fire. Perhaps this was what your friend was referring to. Either that or he knows someone who plays video games in a furnace.

I would hope not or sony would be facing a huge lawsuit....plus that would suck for me since I won one. Cant be true cause my uncle just got his and I pretty much heard his going off all night.
