it's no crocduck but it's close enough

a venomous mammal that lays eggs, has a reptilian gait, duck bill like sensory organ, and uniqe jaw among mammals

happy now young earth creationists?

as it was said everything is transitanal but this one is so overly obvious you can't ignore it

easyericlife- it's a mammal...that lays eggs...if you took an biology class ever you'd know mammals generaly...don't lay eggs...

Ihalmiut- if you can find something that proves whats on that wikipedia page is utterly wrong that would push me a step towards believing creationism

I love the answer - 'no thanks'

I can't stop giggling, you have to admire such a creative zeal for dogma.

I'd rather like to prove that there was no evolution, it would be fun, science is all about enquiry...

But the dishonesty is deafening from the religionist side of the fence - dissembling, quote-mining, persistent fallacies, and just plain-old fingers in ears singing "la la la can't hear you Santa, I mean Satan...so shut up already"

Listen Up atHietz, if a monkey comes from dust, then why is there still monkeys and dust?

"There are no rocks with wings"

Creationist. Quote. Of . The Millenium.

As for the platypus, it has scant fossil records, it doesn;t seem very widely distributed, it was once larger (110 million years ago) and had teeth, it seems to be a transitional reptile-mammal type.

Darwinists used to think it was a mammal-bird transition because of the bill, but that has been overthrown.

Lots to read about the platypus here:

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/platypus.html

It is strange that creationists think that given the pace of evolution, over (literally billions of years) would still mean that in their lifetimes they could expect to see a rock sprout gills and then wings before losing it's wings and turning into a web footed dustmonkeyman.

Because, y'see, if they don't observe such living transitions, then it's easier to believe their holy manuscript tells them things were just magicked into being. *ptooph!*

There. Platypus. *pow*.

Whats it transitioning into and from? Was it a duck before? And as well, you might want to ask yourself why with such highly complex systems involved at what point it was able to breed, feed and survive its environment without one or all of these elements fully functional? Is there any fossil record that shows its a transitional species? Cuz ya know, thousands of them were killed in the early 19th century by scientists eager to figure them out and yet even today they confound. Such statements have been made regarding the electro receptor its "muzzle" as called by scientists because it is not a true bill is unique by many different details. The way it grows, what its made of, the way it works, the infant teeth that turn into horned pads...the fact that without that muzzle/bill it would starve because of the nature of its food source, where it hunts and that it has to do so with its eyes shut. I'm ecstatic and amazed at the complexity of this creature and how there is no way in heck this animal wasn't designed and all its systems occured by random mutations. So yeah, I'd say I'm quite happy. You keep on lookin' up all yer stuff on Wikipedia....its seems to be working for ya. Love in Christ, ~J~

I find this ironic because i see this as evidence of design.

You must first accept evolution is true in order to come to the conclusion that this is a transitional species. It's not like it has a big sticker on it, "Hi! I am a transitional species!" Someone could just as easily see this as God using the same patterns He has developed in other animals (reptiles, ducks, etc) and putting them together in a different way. God doesn't invent each thing anew, just like a painter doesn't start a different style with each painting.

What you see, therefore, depends upon your presuppositions.

But thank you for addressing your question to the right group ("young earth creationists"). I'm assuming you know that Intelligent Designers might agree with you on this point, which is why you didn't address the question to them. :)

each and every species is continuously subjected to organic determination and is as a result continuously evolving. Examples of each and every residing organism we see immediately signify a transition between examples you would be conscious at any time in the previous and examples you would be conscious at it sluggish sooner or later. as a result all species alive immediately are "transitional". The term is incomprehensible in any scientific context and is barely usual with deluded creationists and uneducated media hacks.

Interesting you should pick the platipus since Evolutionary Scientist have always considered it one of the enigmas they couldn't explain with evolutionary theory

Quit worrying about global warming and get on with evolving.
So what if the climate warms?
With examples like the platipus to show the way we know we have no worries mate.

On the surface that would seem to make sense, but in order to show that the duck billed platypus is in fact a transitional species you would have to provide fossil evidence that shows previous forms of that species going through and actual transition over time.

As a Christian who believes that there is a common designer and not common ancestors for the different species of animals on earth today, I look at the platypus and see and animal designed by God, perhaps with one purpose being to show scientists that God is not limited in the variety of designs that He chose to use.

Cell Replication

The details of cell replication are too complex to be described in detail here. A simplified outline is given below to illustrate the incredible process involved: 5

1. Replication involves the synthesis of an exact copy of the cell's DNA.

2. An initiator protein must locate the correct place in the strand to begin copying.

3. The initiator protein guides an "unzipper" protein (helicase) to separate the strand, forming a fork area. This unwinding process involves speeds estimated at approximately 8000 rpm, all done without tangling the DNA strand!

4. The DNA duplex kinks back on itself as it unwinds. To relieve the twisting pressure, an "untwister" enzyme (topo-isomerase) systematically cuts and repairs the coil.

5. Working only on flat, untwisted sections of the DNA, enzymes go to work copying the strand. (Two complete DNA pairs are synthesized, each containing one old and one new strand.)

6. A stitcher repair protein (DNA ligases) connects nucleotides together into one continuous strand.

Read and Write

The process described above is only a small part of the story. While the unwinding and rewinding of the DNA takes place, an equally sophisticated process of reading the DNA code and "writing" new strands occurs. The process involves the production and use of messenger RNA. Again, a simplified process description: 6

1. Messenger RNA is made from DNA by an enzyme (RNA polymerase).

2. A small section of DNA unzips, revealing the actual message (called the sense strand) and the template (the anti-sense strand).

3. A copy is made of the gene of interest only, producing a relatively short RNA segment.

4. The knots and kinks in the DNA provide crucial topological stop-and-go signals for the enzymes.

5. After messenger RNA is made, the DNA duplex is zipped back up.

Adding to the complexity and sophistication of design, the genetic code is read in blocks of three bases (out of the four possible bases mentioned earlier) that are non-overlapping.

Moreover, the triplicate code used is "degenerate," meaning that multiple combinations can often code for the same amino acid-this provides a built-in error correction mechanism. (One can't help but contrast the sophistication involved with the far simpler read/write processes used in modern computers.)

A Common Software House

All living things use DNA and RNA to build life from four simple bases. The process described above is common to all creatures from simple bacteria all the way to humans.

Evolutionists point to this as evidence for their theory-but the new discoveries of the complexity of the process, and the fact that bacterial ribosomes are so similar to those in humans, is strong evidence against evolution. The complexities of cell replication must have been present at the beginning of life.

A simple explanation for the similarities of the basic building blocks can be found if one realizes that all life originates from a single "software house." He is awesome indeed!

No, I don't want a transitional species that's alive today. I want hundreds, if not thousands of them if I am to believe in the theory of evolution. With thousands of different species out there, it stands to reason that there should be thousands of transitional species.

Well, since you are certain that this is a transitional species, you can tell us
1) which species it most immediately evolved from
2) which species most immediately evolved from it

Thanks.

BTW, I believe that God most likely use evolution to create man.
