Depending on the player and the discs you are using, it could cause play problems or errors... but usually it would be OK.

The codes to make DVD players region free, are put there by the manufacturers themselves.

Although each DVD disc is encoded for a specific region, the players themselves aren't initially setup for say, Region 2. They are all actually made Region Free and only locked to a particular region when dispatched from the factory, depending on which country they are being sent to.

The unlock code is embedded in the player's hardware by the factory. All you need to do, is find it and unlock it. Many unlock codes can actually be found on the manufacturer's website.

Having said all that, you would be very unlucky to buy a Region 2 only DVD player these days, as most are sold as Region Free, straight from the box.

No it's not in fact you have every right to make it region free if you can it is not illegal to do this!
The region coding system was created to stop you buying a DVD cheaper from another part of the world & so unfairly controlling the price!
Get it done!

I don't think its bad at all. It was a nasty trick created by hollywod. The idea is that the world is split into region codes to prevent a new release in america being copied and distributed around the world before the release date in other countries. Lets face it, how many of us actual buy many pirate dvd's? Just hollywood paranoia.
On your pc you can only change regions a few times, but your dvd, if you know how to get the unblock code (and that's not difficult) can be altered as many times as you like. But you just need to set it to multiregion, and you never have to set it again.
Maybe its 'bad' to buy pirated dvd's, but not to unlock your player.

no its not bad....but you can only do it a few times. After that it wont play. Be careful..don't unlock it just because a dvd wont play in it...there are other reasons why they don't play.

Those codes are region codes..they are meant to play dvds that were manugactored to play in the region only where they were manufactored for and the player which for the region it was set for.

goodluck

Certainly not, DVD manufacturers are already ripping you off by making them for only one region, if you find a code, use it!

If you unlock it, the DRM fairy will creep out of the disk loader and come and get you in the middle of the night.
