Some people get verses from the Quran out of context and use them to prove that Islam is a voilent religion,

Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.

Does this sound voilent to you?

Does that sound something taken out of context?

You don't know the sentence before that or the sentece after it.
Or if its said from the Quran.

Its actually from the bible.
Matthew 10:34

See you can pull that trick on any religion.

great point sis, i asked a similer question, these people take stuff out of context and try to prove their point, here are some more "violent" verses from the bible but arent valid because out of context

Death to Followers of Other Religions

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

Kill Nonbelievers

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
Kill Followers of Other Religions.

1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

Sex Slaves (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Ofcourse none of these are valid since i took them out of context

Big deal. You used a trick. The difference is the quran really is violent and the proof is not just the words (like cutting off infidels fingers and heads. Kind of hard to misinterpret that message.), but the actions of Muslims, starting with Muhammad. Did you hear about the car bombing in Pakistan today? Or the Muslim Bakery raided in California and the charges of murder, kidnapping and intimidation against the Muslims? That's not a trick. That's reality.

God Bless.

All religions have flaws because they were invented by men. The Bible is far more violent than the Holy Quran.

Duh. The Bible makes the Quran look like the life story of Mother Teresa. Rape, incest, murder, genocide in the Old Testament and Jesus promising war and suffering, turning husband against wife and so on. Then the late prophets prediciting Armageddon.

The Bible is violent. Everybody knows it.

George Bernard Shaw once said about the Bible " It is the most dangerous book, keep it in lock and key and away from your children"
One of the most read and respected books of Hindus is Bhagwat Geeta. And we all know that it is instructions from Shri Krishna to Arjuna, on how to fight against his own cousins.
Only thing is that we are not apologetic about our religion. We accept it in toto. Our only problem is, with people quoting out of context. All these instruction of war or fighting are, in the Holy Quran, for particular situations. It is not that Holy Quran speaks only of war and violence, it is a complete guide for us as to how we live our lives.

Actually, the Bible is the most violent, "evil" book of all time. No-one's really disputing that. The Quran isn't much better, from what I've heard- tell, me then, what context justifies your prophets telling you to massacre the non-believers?

I agree. Both religions can be confused with violent. When will people understand that holy wars and divine genocide are not violent, they are necessary?

PS I think Buddhism is pretty non-violent. There is actually alto of intelligence in that group. Its too bad most religions require you to judge things you know nothing about.

You're absolutely right, and I'm not Muslim. I don't believe that Islam as a whole is a violent religion. I believe that some PEOPLE interpret it that way. Hence, terrorists.

Some people have interpreted Christianity as violent as well, even though it's not supposed to be.

We just have to understand that since humanity is flawed, that our interpretations will be sometimes as well.
