Office 2007 runs on XP as well as Vista.

I just recently set that up for my boss ... Office 2007 & XP Professional. Office doesn't care whether you have the Home or Pro version of XP, so Office 2007 and XP Home is NOT a problem. Set it up and have fun!

Those are already on XP, but Vista has a whole new updated version, and from what I have heard, it sucks big time, a lot of people hate Vista, but the problem is that when you buy a new computer now, it will most likely have Vista on it.
