I am trying to install Norton2007 but I cannot get the live update to stop running to uninstall the old Norton. Does anyone know how I can get it out I have tried going through the control panel and deleting it and I have downloaded the removal tool but it does not respond

Norton is always "fun" to remove, and deliberately so. They make it difficult to remove so that no one can write a virus which removed Norton.

Go to the Norton website and they have utilities you can download and run to remove the different versions of their software.

When you put the 2007 disc in does it tell you to uninstall previous versions? Most software will do that automatically

Can you disable it via the system configuration utility?

Start>Run>type in MSCONFIG>Startup tab - uncheck any reference to Norton, reboot
