Lay down plastic to cover the entire floor. Spray water all over the ceiling to get it very damp. Use a wide putty knife to remove. Don't forget the safety glasses. Good luck.

Actually, you don't need any kind of scrapper, what I do (when I get eggs on the ceiling) is just bust out the push lawn mower and lower the blades as far as it they go, and fire that baby up in the kitchen. Then when it's running, hold it upside down and press it on the ceiling. This is not dangerous because the blades propel the lawn mower like a helicopter and pull it tight to the ceiling. I know what your thinking, that the weed whacker would be the better tool for the job. . . . well, your wrong. It's too dangerous to use a weed whacker in the house. Even if you didn't get hurt, the popcorn would not be evenly removed. To get back on track now, Go back and forth a couple of times with your trusty mower, making sure that you don't let go of the throttle. When the gas runs out of the line, it will turn off. Simply catch the lawn mower and then your done. No more popcorn on the ceiling. As a safety procaution make sure you are wearing safety glasses.

There is a device made specially for removing popcorn ceilings. It has a long handle with what looks like a metal rectangle on the end. If you go to any hardware store they'll know what you're talking about. Use this with a spray bottle of water. I attached a plastic bag to the end of the handle so I didn't even have a mess to clean up afterwards. It took me about 15 mintues to do my bathroom ceiling (fairly good sized area). Once you get the tool and read instructions on how to work it, you'll see it's really fairly easy to do.

good luck

Popcorn ceilings are a mess to remove, but well worth the effort. When I did it, I used a spray bottle to get the surface good and damp and then scraped the goo off with the widest putty knife I could find. If you don't get it wet, you will be at it forever! I've heard of some people sanding it off (dry) but the dust goes everywhere and you'd have to use a mask. Good luck!
