My brother is so rude, disrespectful and unappreciative person I've ever met.

My mother is a single parent, my father left us when I was 3. My mother hasn't had it very easy, and although I didn't completely understand this when I was younger, I have so much respect for her now that I've matured.

My brother expects my Mum to drive him everywhere, buy him whatever he wants and he never helps around the house. He tells my mother to shut up and that he hates her.

I've tried to talk to him about it and to explain to him how ungrateful he's being, but no luck. I've also tried to talk to my Mum and I've told her she doesn't deserve it, and he can't speak to her like that. But what she didn't like my suggestions, so I left it.

I'm 17 and I've only got about 6months left until I leave for University. How can I show my brother that he's so lucky and she'd do anything for him?

Unfortunatly, there is not much you or your Mum can do. It is all up to the rude, disrespectful and unappreciative butthead :)
Somewhere ~ Sometime he will wake up and smell the poop he has laid for himself and make the appropriate changes.

All this does not mean that you or Mum has to tollerate his hollyness.

Unfortnutately, your mother seems to be perpetuating the situation. If I were in her place, all driving by me would stop, no money from me, no activities, no signing releases for sports. If things still got worse, the bare minimum would happen.... 3 days worth of clothes, a mattress on the floor and a set of sheets. It is not ok to abuse the people that help you become an adult. Plus, any movement toward getting a driver's license would cease completely until a new attitude was adopted. I'm not sure that there's anything you can do about it except point out to your brother that these things can stop happening for him if he pushes her too far. Good luck!

I have a similar problem with my daughters 16 year old friend . She calls me profanity names , she tells me " no ones talking to you " when I ask my daughter a question . She gets my daughter to do the same things . We went to a restaurant and the girl wouldn't let me sit next to my wife . The problem is these people think they know everything and think its funny to disrespect people . I finally snapped and chewed her out in front of my daughter . I told my daughter that she is a bad influence and both of you are starting to act like spoiled 8 year old kids . She is no longer allowed here , but the problem is my daughter is 19 and started dating the girls brother .

well i guess he's a boy and he misses his father,
and that drives him to say things that he doesn't mean,
is pretty hard on him with only one parent and sometimes, that makes him somehow turn on your mother as being the only parent in your house.
i guess the most he needs a father figure, or else someone to explain that things arent that easy for your mother either.

This is an "normal" phase in a teens life.
In a year or so he should change...if he doesn´t change within 3 years,it starts to become a real problem!

You cant, its how he's been raised by your mother. She is the one who needs to step in and parent him through this time. You're doing all you can.
