If you think its a waste of time then don't go. If you go because you like the people, enjoy the community, or like to participate in community work they may do that is different and up to you. I don't believe but I used to attend a Unitarian Universalist church because I liked the community and they were involved in many social projects to make our town and world better. They are a very liberal group who generally believes there may be a higher power or God but all spiritual paths have merit and salvation if it exists in open to all not just those of a certain faith. So they weren't really hardcore dogma types and in fact they had non theistic Buddhists and humanists attending. Maybe find a community such as this that is more a long the lines of your beliefs? If you agree with humanist philosophy see if there is a local group or start one. You can find on-line if one exists near you. If you are into Second Life they have a growing community of non theists that meet on-line there and work toward increasing support for non theists as well as outreach work on social issues.

It is fine if you don't. It is best not to broadcast that because many people find that scary and may think less of you. There are scores of religions and almost all believers believe that their religion is the one and only correct one and all others are false. They amost always believe what their parents believe. So a devout Baptist would be a devout Muslim if he was born and raised in Iran. So doesn't that make you wonder? If they pray and something good happens it is because they prayed. If it doesn't happen it is the will of god. That is a little like heads I win and tails you lose. I believe that if there is a god he/she will want you to life a good life. That is be honest, caring, considerate and to try to do the right thing. To be charitable, visit the sick, help those who are having trouble etc. I really don't think he/she will put so much weight on going to church, praying etc. Be good and do good and if you make a mistake try not to do it again. Good Luck in finding peace on earth.

I feel everyone has the right to believe what they believe. I feel it is totally wrong to feel that YOU can believe what you believe and then turn around and say someone is wrong for being the way they are. Believing in God is the very backbone of why people do live, why people are who they are, why people have their values and without religion some people would wonder what the purpose is for living. You have to admit it though that there are alot of people that believe in God that are very friendly and are worth knowing. Why say it is wrong to believe in something that makes these people live a very productive, happy and full-filling life. There are alot of things in life that are very inspirational and people believe in them and I don't find myself telling them they are wrong and not right. I can understand where you are coming from. Life hasn't changed to much from now and in the world where Jesus has lived. People have a tendency to gossip and often distort information and especially when time has passed VERY long ago. Who is to say that the information is totally correct. I can see where it may be hard to believe that even adults for that matter who know the difference from right and wrong could believe in something so hardedly that they never truly have seen or touched. Although people believe in alot of things that may not seem like a reality like for instance "Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny" and they certainly make everyones life worth living and giving oneself the joy of laughter. I don't believe that someone has to attend church to believe in God. I don't believe so much that we are all sinners and have to be forgiven. I realize that I should feel bad or have regrets for things that I have done but it isn't like I have commited murder. Think about it though before you turn your head because the whole idea of a purpose after death is much better then just being like a vacuum cleaner and BOOM your gone and ready to throw out. I look at the human race from the moment a beautiful baby comes into the world and realize what a miracle and gift life is and think to myself there certainly must be a GOD and someone I should be thankful that put me on this earth.

There a lot of things that don't make sense in the bible, Adam and Eve, 2 Sons, 1 killed the other, where did the all the other people come from, My cousin was a priest and his bride a nun, but there were things that even they didnt understand, hence they married and had a family, but having said that, I still believe in God and I think sometimes his message is miscontrued in the bible, but if you believe and have faith in God, thats what its all about, I hope this helps to settle your mind, Goodluck!!!

You dont disbelieve the Scriptures because of when they were written. (most NT books 50-100 years after his death, not centuries)
You disbelieve because you lack basic faith in God.
Under Christian thinking, are you wrong for going to church while disbelieving in God? No. We really want unbelievers there so they will be exposed to the truth even if initially they are their for other reasons. I know my first original church experience (on my own without parents) had to do with just wanting a letter of recomendation from a minister. But once I started meeting with them and talking with the minister, that helped me to see what the Gospel (good news) was all about and I started regularly attending and got baptized and became a true believer!
Under worldly thinking, are you wrong for going to church? Not wrong perhaps, but foolish.

I'm an atheist, and I can't imagine I have to go to church, so I don't go. Probably the social pressure on you to go to church is higher than on me (nobody around me wants me to go to church), otherwise you wouldn't have asked this question and just decided not to go anymore, but I couldn't go through the charade over and over again if I were you. Maybe if you tell them what you really think, they may even think you're the devil or things like that.
I can't make a decision for you, I don't know your situation, and I'm not you either, but I'd tell them. If they wanted me to go or start sprinkling you with holy water to drive Evil out of you, I'd be out never to return. But maybe they're only interested in how you think, want to talk to you about it (and convert you again), but no real harm done. Than you could go to church when you like to meet the people your friends with, and live a happy life ever after.

If you don't believe in God why do go to church.
I went through the same not believing in god when I was a young boy at school I found it hard to understand as one teacher was teaching us History and the other Religion who was right ?
I chooses History as the fact's are there as for religion well someone show me the truth, its easy to write about it after the show is over but remember we all see things in a different way

You're right about the Bible. And it's not wrong to disagree with the church. However, going to a church when you don't believe in what they're expousing is a HUGE waste of time, as you said. If you like to waste your time, waste it wisely.

It's not for me to judge you as right or wrong but I can say that if you agree with nothing taught by your church then perhaps you are wasting your time there. Perhaps you should consider a different faith. It's your call not mine or anyone else's. It's not a matter of right or wrong. It's your time to waste if thats how you see it.

Keep going and keep disagreeing. Who knows you might well be gripped by the living God and turned upside down. Should be an interesting experience.
