st paul said, "we preach a christ crucified" not resurrected. ofcourse we view the resurrection in the light of what it is, nothing short of beautiful and glory. christ on the cross calls to mind sacrafice, carrying our own cross, but more importantly what jesus the son of god what god actually came on this earth to do. in catholic mass each catholic is placed right there at the crucifixion with the eucharist( from eucharista meaning thanksgiving). to better understand you need to know about the todah and passover meal. i know this is just an innocent question and thank you for it but when i think of the splendour of christ on the cross(ofcourse it bears to mind feelings of sorrow don't get me wrong) i just don't know where to begin, so here are some sites where you can learn more about our faith and even if only specifically why we have christ still on the cross.

www.catholiceducation.org
www.salvationhistory.com
www.askmeaboutgod.org
www.vatican.va
the catholic education website covers the todah and passover the best in my opinion.
hope this has helped and god bless.

The MOST important thing that Jesus did for us was die for our sins to give us the gift of everlasting life.
He did rise from the dead but rising from the dead did not open the gates of heaven for us, dying for our sins did. The crucifix in no way denies the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the MOST important point in all of history.
The crucifix reminds us of this moment.
With love in Christ.

......without the crucifixion of Christ there'd be no resurrection, would there ?
The crucifixion was NECESSARY for the redemption of the human race.
in regard to the resurrection,we celebrate Easter....but again, without HIS crucifixion there would be NO redemption.

If we want to participate in His resurrection, we must first take up our cross and follow him. The image of Christ crucified is for many of us inspiring in that regard. It helps remind us that if we are to inherit eternal life, we must die to ourselves. It also reminds us of His great love for us, and motivates us to aspire to such selflessness.
That said, we do also depict the resurrection.

some people concentrate on the positive some on the negitive, some on the life of Christ as the son of God, some on the suffering of Christ to make him the son of God. It all lies in the emphisis the doctrine wishes to rely upon.

Because they want you to remember the pain that he went through for you not the fact that he did it knowing that he could just come back to life again anyway. That makes it not much of a sacrifice lol. I'm JOKING... I respect all religions or lack there of.

Uhm, what symbol would you prefer to see people wear around their necks? A crucifix or a guy pushing a boulder out of the way?
