Avocados are rich in fat, both mono-unsaturated and saturated. But the level of saturated fat is lesser than in a mayonnaise. Moreover, the mono-unsaturated fat tend to eliminate the saturated one while eating avocados. They are good sources of Omega 3 and Vitamin E too. So if you replacing a mayonnaise dressing with an avocado, then it's really good. But if you eating both the fatty salad dressing and the avocado, then you are just accumulating more fat. So throw your mayonnaise away and adopt avocado for your salad dressing or any other recipe. They also make one serving of your 5 a day of fruits and vegetables. So go for it. But everything in moderation. OK?

Avocados are great. They are high in the good fats just like Olives. I read an article about how an Avocado farmer in the US ate an Avocado or two a day and he is like 80 years old.
:)
Here's a statistic on one cup of raw Avocados.

I think you will find that avocados are high in the beneficial mono-unsaturated fats which help to lower cholesterol levels or raise the hdl levels. Apparently raising the hdl* levels is the most important. Very healthy but obviously are high in fat so watch your other fat intakes.
*High density lipoprotein.

Pro: The taste great.
Cons: They are super-high in saturated fats.
As long as you're not eating whole avocados, you should be fine.
