If the person is new to wine, they might enjoy something sweet. I would recommend a Riesling or a Spumante (a sweet Sparkling wine).

Good luck!

I'm not sure about wine, but I have the same problem but I love spumantii champagne... anyway, try and find a wine tasting, that way you'll be exposed to a lot of differant things, and you can decide for yourself...

Try a sweet white wine like Blue Nun from Germany - not for real wine lovers, but good enough for a beginner.

Beringer Private, White Zen ... is (to me a great settled wine) and S.A. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese 1999 is nice and sweet (now this bottle is a bit high, we're talking $119.00 easy) the Beringer is not high at all ... ~wink~
These to me are the best for light or pink wines

Beer?

If you're looking for something sweeter, try a demi-sec champagne or a Sauternes. They are both dessert wines for which you should expect to pay a premium.

There's also nothing wrong with having mixed drinks....

Saracco (white wine)

you have to buy it at a liquor store they don't sell this in the super market and it is about $20 a bottle.

Try a Chardonnay or something from California
Most shops have a star rating, aim for a 4 or a 5 star bottle Safeways and Morrisons have this as a guide
