Rover 800 stereo head unit..lights up but no sound..help !!?

Hi..I have a 2ltr P reg Rover 800.The stereo head unit lights up and displays radio station name etc but there is no sound coming from it,I've tried it on the radio & cd but still no sound.Any help will be much appreciated :-)

Take the stereo out and check the connections on the back. There are 2 holes on the front front left and right hand side of the unit, Stick 2 U shape metal removers and the stereo will pop out.

Ah the good old Rover K series head gasket failure.....it's not a matter of 'if' but 'when'. Sadly it costs about £3-400 to get the job done at a garage and often that isn't the end of it since if it's been overheating the head will be warped and will need skimmed too. Frankly unless you're unusually attached to the car it's not worth fixing as it'll e more than the car's worth. Scrap steel is at a good price just now and the 75 is a heavy car, so you should get at least £300 for it.

Any speaker shorted may cause the radio to shut off the amplifier. So inspect the backs of the rear speakers first may have been damaged by something placed in the Trunk or Boot. Any recent door or panel repair check there next?

had same problem 7 years ago,stereo was naff,so scraped the car,as a new stereo cost more than car's worth

u need to re code the unit

check your speakers and wire as well as connections to your stereo

did you check and see is u switchted the positive and negitives?
