You have done well to describe a jelly fish sting. It can burn like crazy and welt-up (with a raised colored bump) for some time.

You can generally tell if you were stung by a jellyfish by examining the area that appears to be stung. If the pain is intense, stinging pain, there is a small rash, or you have raised welts where the sting appears to be, then chances are you may have been stung by a jellyfish. If you develop any of the following symptoms, get to the emergency room immediately: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe swelling, abdominal pain, back pain, fever, chills, sweating, difficulty breathing, or redness and irritation that last more than 3 days as you may have developed an allergic reaction and/or a bacterial infection.

Treatment: rinse with salt water (either from the ocean or made at home). Fresh water will increase the pain. Do not rub the area or put ice on it. Vinegar or isopropyl alcohol can be used on the sting. If there are tentacles remaining, they need to be removed with a pair of tweezers. Make a paste of baking soda and water and put it on the sting. Shave over the area with a razor (as though you were shaving hair off your body). Reapply the vinegar or alcohol. Apply hydrocortisone 2-3 times a day and wrap the area with an ace bandage wrap. Make sure the wrap is tight, but not too tight.

Seek medical attention if you are concerned by heading to your nearest emergency room or doctor's office.

Jellyfish stings vary greatly depending on the type of jellyfish, and I've never been stung and seen red flecks... but if it got you good, it could very well been tiny pinpricks of blood. Typically the area will turn quite red, and sting alot. It will look like a rash. Allergic reactions are quite common, sometimes even deadly. You could even have a small reaction.

I've always just rubbed sand in mine, and that helped... of course, others may say to put some vinegar on it, pee on it, get some creams or lotions, etc. It should go away within a day or two. If not, see the doc.

I jelly fish can kill you. You may have been touched in the water by a stinger baby fish. Wash the area with Chamomile tea as warm as you can stand it. That will kills an poison it gave off and kill the pain, take down the inflammation and help it heal and clear away. A mild jellyfish sting is possible and the solution they use is hot water, just as hot as you can stand it coming out of the faucet, until most of the poison is pulled out and you have some relief to stand it. That's what the emt's at the beach do if you step on one of something. The chamomile tea can be found in the grocery store coffee isle. Best to you!
