Dogs absolutely need their boosters every year. Parvovirus is an absolutely HORRIBLE disease and distemper and all the others as pretty nasty too. It's not worth risking it. It's only once a year and that's it...finished! It's also a good opportunity to speak to your vet about any questions you may want answering..

According to studies and current protocol a dog older then 7 that has been up to date on vaccinations do NOT need any other vaccinations again other then rabies as required by law.

Also dogs do NOT need nor should they have yearly vaccinations. This is NOT necassary and is against the current recommendations by the AAHA/AVMA and all 27 vet schools. People (and many vets) over vaccinate pets and cause immune system damage as well as a host of other issues. There are many, many studies out on this.

To learn more please go to Dr. Jean Dodds site or Dr Ron Schultz site. Also get a copy of the 2006 November issue of the Whole Dog Journal..it has a great article on vaccinations.

Wrong! Dogs need boosters every year to rev up their immune systems. There are so many things in our environment that pull down an animal's immune system. There are more and more diseases and super bugs out there than ever before. Now is not the time to stop getting booster shots against diseases. At ten, your dog is not as strong as he once was, and needs all the help he can get to fight off bad viruses, bacteria, and microorganisms.

there are pros and cons to innoculations, Humans dont have boosters every year, so do animals need them? if you are worried by this you could get your vet to check the titre level by taking blood, that will give you the level of immunity in the system, there are also nosodes you can give prior to injection which can 'soften the blow' as sometimes in older dogs and young pups these annual boosters can cause more problems than they solve, and of course it all depends on wether you kennel your dogs whilst on holiday or take the dog abroad , and bare in mind it might void your pet insurance if you dont have the boosters annually,

Not sure who the heck told you that, but your dog will need it's annual boosters for the rest of it's life! Some boosters are every 3 years now - Check with your vet...

Vaccinations are good for many years and your dog did not need them past the age of one.
Dr. Ron Schultz did a duration of immunity study and published his results in 1999. He is professor and chair at Wisconsin University.

No I'm sure that's not right, I've had shepherds for 20 years or so and I'v never heard that and I really wouldn't want to compromise their health by putting it to the test, I think and I think most would agree with me, keep up with your dogs boosters, my dogs just been really poorly and if she hadn't had her injections I honestly think she wouldn't be here now

I think animals/dogs are just like humans. No matter how old we/dogs are, we need those shots to keep us in better health. The older your body gets the less there is to fight off illness. It just takes the older pets longer + it hits them harder because of their age. Talk with your dog's vet. : )

Hmmm.
Booster shots are important, esp. with all of the viruses, such as distemper, corona, kennel cough, RABIES, etc.
Besides keeping YOUR dog safe, you are also ensuring the health of other dogs your dog comes into contact with, and you and your family's.....

We don't have rabies in Hawaii, YET, but we still insist on boosters for other things annually.

If in doubt, ring up your vet.
