When you understand why you don't believe in Zeus, Horus, Odin, Chrishna, or the thousands of other gods, you will understand why atheists don't believe in yours. Atheists simply believe in ONE LESS god than Christians do. Not a big deal.
What makes YOU think that leprechauns or the Tooth Fairy are not real? To atheists, God is just as silly.
I would never be a Christian, even if the Biblical God existed, because I do not consider drowning, Plaguing, and slaughtering millions (more than Hitler), conspiring to have your own kid beaten and executed, and commanding your followers to torture and kill thousands of people, to be moral.

Well, let me start off by saying I do believe in god. That said, I can totally understand how someone who doesn't can't stand people like you trying to aggrevate them into believing what you think they should. I mean that is no way to do "god's work". This is not how you act christian. Do you really believe you are going to sway someone's opinion with that attitude? Do you honestly think you are going to start a productive conversation? At best all you will do is start an argument, in which you will take sides and push them away.
You should always keep an open mind and listen (not just hear) other's point of view. If you cannot do that, then how do you expect sway someone with an alternative point of view? I mean you want them to have an open mind and listen to you don't you?
Lastly the only real reason to pose that question (psychologically) the way you did is because you have doubts, and you need to be reassured by others who believe what you want to believe. I truely hope for your sake that is not the case. I also hope that you truely desire to do gods work and help bring peace and happyness to these peoples life. If that is the case, then i also hope that you find a better way of doing it.
Go with God!

I am neither a Christian nor an atheist. I am just me. I have my own beliefs about spirituality. But the single idea I feel strongest about is the sense that we really know nothing. We make strides every day to understand this world we live on, and this universe we are a part of. But we only know such a small fraction of the knowledge that is out there.
So my personal faith is that we must all treat others with kindness and compassion. Not because we fear going to hell. But because that is just what we are supposed to do as human beings. Our humanity should unite us, not divide us. We as a group of organisms could do so much to benefit not only are species, but this place we call home, planet earth.
Instead of dreaming of heaven or fearing hell, we should look seriously at the direction our lives are going on this planet. What are we doing to make a positive impact? How can I eliminate the negative I am putting out there? These questions of humanity should not be divided by separate religions, but joined together in the pursuit of happiness and freedom for us all. No matter where we live or what our "faith" is. Until we can reach that point, we will still have strife and war on this planet. Until a Muslim black man and a Baptist white woman can put aside their differences and just look out for each other like brother and sister, we are doomed as a species.

First, you have to define God. This too often is a moving target for us atheists. There are two reasonable ways to define God that I have heard:
1. Creator of existence
2. Intelligent, supernatural entity who intervenes in the world through miracles.
First, number one. The argument from design. As a scientist I understand evolutionary theory and thermodynamics and thus know that the complexity and beauty of the world does not require intelligent design. It surely would be consistent to say that God created everything. There is no way to disprove it. But it is useless as a concept as it just leaves us unable to explain God and grants no new insights into the natural world.
As for God intervening through miracles, here is a simple test. Pray to God that you will flip a coin 50 times and that you demand 50 heads as the outcome as proof of his existence. You will get a negative answer as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
Think about miracles. Why do you never hear prayers for impossible things? Have you ever heard someone pray for the dead to be resurrected? Or for an amputee to spontaneously regrow a limb? Or for a mountain range to move halfway across the world? Why is that? Every prayer we hear about being answered had some chance of being fulfilled without prayer.
Hence, there is no rational reason to believe in God. I mean no offense by saying this. There are surely emotional and spiritual reasons and if you like I will deal with those separately.

I don't believe because the Bible is outrageous. It ranks among the likes of Rumpelstiltskin or The Three Little Pigs. To me, it is a story written by men, and nothing more.
Really... I don't understand the confusion. It is a bizarre story, with unlikely claims and inconsistencies... why are you so surprised that people doubt its validity?
Setting aside the Bible and all forms of religion, the idea of *any* deity creating the earth just doesn't work for me. Who am I? I am no more special and important in the big picture than my dog or the fish swimming in my tank.. they were not created by a supernatural being, nor was I.

While I'm not an Atheist, I can ask you as a Christian why don't you believe in Amun-Ra, Zeus, Venus, Ahura Mazda, Shiva, or Quetzalcoatl? People who believe in those Gods probably cannot understand why you think their Gods are not real. However, at least they will respect your choice with the God of Abraham.

there isn't any evidence that one exists
whats so hard to understand about that
extra ordinary things require extra ordinary evidence
You don't think that it's odd that your god only talks to people on an individual basis and seemingly tells them completely contradictory things and doesn't show himself to everyone with one clear message?
If you believe your god interferes why does he only do so on things that also have a natural explanation
If miracles (supernatural ones) really did happen do you not think that they'd be shouting it from every news show in the world and scientists would be baffled? Instead it's down to a friend of a friend's second cousins brother to spread the word

Okay, well what makes you think the easter bunny, or the tooth fairy, or Zeus isn't real? Or why don't you believe in Buddha, or the Koran? Probably logic, reason, rationale, lack of evidence, etc. If you can understand that then can understand atheism.
If you're Christian, then you don't believe in other gods, so you already know what it's like to not believe in other gods. We just add one more to the list.

keke ... AGAIN ... nobody has EVER seen him! Perhaps they did 2000 years ago, I don't know. But since he hasn't been back in over 2007 years ... what is so difficult about some people having a hard time believing in him? When atheists say, "Where is he then?" Religious people answer with the most improbable answers that it's impossible to be swayed by them. We can only have faith if there was something to instill faith in us to begin with. Simply having a Christian tell me there's a god and we should have faith in him just isn't enough.
To Dead Pagan,
We smell what?

There is no proof of Gods existence. Religion is mythology that was originally created to explain the unknown. Science has done a much better job of explaining our universe and it's laws than mythology has.
Your Bible states that the stars are held up by firmament, that snakes and donkeys talk, that God has the strength of a unicorn, that the earth is flat, etc... Christianity is fiction and based on plagiarized pagan beliefs.
