Mark 16:17-18 A believer can handle snakes or drink poison and not experience any harm. (Note: Many unfortunate believers have died as a result of handling snakes and drinking poison).
This kind of assertion OBVIOUSLY negates the Bible as a useful guidebook for life.
Since you believe in the bible, HOW CAN YOU BELIEVE IN ALL THE ABSURDITIES IN IT ?
This is just one, let's do not mention talking snakes, donkeys, people swallowed by a whale and survive in the stomach (like pinocchio's story), Noah's ark, A WORLD FLOOD THAT NEVER TOOK PLACE , there are millions of absurdities .
WHY ARE YOU WILLING TO POISON YOUR MIND WITH SO MUCH NONSENSE?

That may explain why the earliest an most reliable manuscripts of Mark's gospel cut chapter 16 off after v 8. And I didn't read anywhere where Jesus commanded anyone to drink poison, just that it would be a sign (one of many possible signs) that the person was a messenger from God.
Dude, if you believe in a God that can create this universe out of NOTHING (as we do), a talking donkey or immunity to snake venom is not much of a stretch.
As for your comments: Millions, huh? Let's see... you said millions (plural) so we will have to say that you claim, at minimum, 2 million. Now I'm double-checking the figures here, and there are 1189 chapters in the Bible. That would mean that for your statement to be correct, there would have to be an average of 1,682 absurdities per CHAPTER, and most chapters don't even have that many words.

If you're looking for an actual answer (which I have a sneaking suspicion that you aren't), I don't think you'll ever get one you like.
It is very easy to take verses out of the Bible out of context. Some books are of lessons, some of history, and still others of law. They are not all the same, as they have been written over the span of at least a thousand years.
Your first verse was taken out of a direct dialogue between the risen Christ and his disciples. Chances are that he was speaking of the wonders and powers that the eleven would have through Him. I could also go on to say that perhaps they had nothing to fear of those objects because they would have died in faith and gone straight to heaven. I am aware that I have stretched the verse to it's extent. However, my point is that the Bible has been translated, translated again, and reworded many times; it is open for interpretation.
Besides, I hardly would state that one assertion could completely destroy the truth of a whole book of faith.
My point is that if you can't believe in the God of the Bible, why would you believe the stories? The world flood story appears in MANY faiths (the mayans even recorded the world being destroyed by a flood).
Can you believe in an all-powerful God at the same time not being able to believe in a talking snake?
I'm not trying to tell you that I'm right, but double-check your mode of thinking. I mean, a GOD that can do anything... He could probably swing all of that, don't you think?

Wow. You make some very broad assumptions, too. If you would bother to read the whole Bible you would see that Paul did get bit by a poisonous snake and live. Yet these people who deliberately test God(as He says not to!) fall for not knowing the truth. They try to wield God around, but the truth is He wields us. Plus you say Noah could have never been based on a story written THOUSANDS of years later!? Wouldn't that make Pinnochio the story thief? You say the flood never took place, yet why are their salt flats in high plains ares such as Nevada? You say "because the world froze over, then thawed!" then you show me a glacier that was ever made of sea water, since all are made of fresh water according to my knowledge given to me by the good people of The Discovery channel. So glaciers didn't put salt in Nevada! What did, high winds, LOL! Scientists tell us now that " We can see that global warming could kill off life as we know it." and "we're not doing enough to stop it." . Well, I didn't drop my drink when I heard it because God has been telling us the Earth would end for THOUSANDS of years and the world's nerds are just now seeing it! I'll give you a heads up on what's next, 1 third of the water will turn bitter, 1 third of the land will burn. So my question is to you, "why don't you think of both sides of an arguement before blurting out things people told you and seriously consider the possibility that you don't know all you could on this matter.

Mark 16 17-18 is not in any of the earliest manuscripts anyway so it is not a strongly historically credible verse anyway until an older manuscript containing it is discovered.
And all of the "absurdities" you mentioned was specifically listed as an instance of Divine Providence or supernatural interference. The donkeys were not just randomly having a casual conversation, there was some sort of supernatural force guiding it the scriptures say. I would go all the way with you in agreeing that donkeys cannot talk, but if someone claims that a supernatural force made it happen, then I could not debunk it. Supernatural forces do not abide by the laws of nature, in fact they break them. And since I believe in a supernatural being that we call God, I have no grounds to deny the possibility of those events in scripture.

And why does it seem to upset you so much if we do?
Two things regarding Mark 16: First, it's a late addition to the text and probably wasn't in the original manuscript and therefore isn't "canonical". That is, it doesn't belong there.
Second, it is not a command that Christians handle snakes and drink poison, it is an observation that they had done such things. If you read the book of Acts you find examples where these things happened to Paul. Someone tacked these verses onto Mark's gospel based on Paul's experience. (Mark travelled with Paul and Luke so there's a connection between them.)
There is LOTS of evidence for a world-wide flood.
There aren't millions of absurdities. There are only about 800,000 words in the Bible so even if every word is absurd that's only 800,000 absurdities.
I'm not sure why you're so upset. Why does it matter to you what others believe?

Craig R. is right. Even though that passage is included in the King James translation, contemporary textual critics believe this was a late addition and thus it is not considered part of the Bible. Even if one were to accept it as Scripture it does not contain a command to do these things. Snake handlers are an extremely small sect which began in the Appalachians in the 20th century. While many snake handlers have suffered due to bites I have only seen documentation that three have actually died.

Christians do not believe in the bible. They believe it to be the inspired word of God. Chirstians believe in Jesus. There was only one man who walked this earth who did not give into sin and he did do to put himself in our shoes and he showed his love for us with one outstretched hand to another nailed to the cross, the bible says all have sinned and fallen short there is not even one righteous enough. Read Romans it really shows you the unconditional love of our savior. You have to remember that alot of thinks are symbolic but yes back then there were miracles and we live in a world with hardened hearts they keep getting even harder and harder as we are further removed from when christ was here when time passes. However their is something in the air there is a change and a lot of people can feel the shift. God is planning a revival a great harvesting. He does this hoping that not one of us would perish. God is not capable of lying. This is true. If you seek him he will answer. All you have to do is grab the offer of salvation and admit you are not perfect and need him. He wont force you though nor will he beg. Thats not the kind of God I would want to serve anyway. He does not want us to be more this or that. He just want our hearts. Ask him. I guarantee you he will come into your life if you ask him. It will be the most amazing thing to happen in your life. I believed in a God. It was not til I had the holy spirit in me I understood what people said about a peace they have never had before and life becoming more clear. All I know is even if there were not a bible or religion, I now know God is real becuase I feel him. Good luck to you and I please do not take this a I am preaching but I used to be a lot like you. Remember just ask for him to reveal himself to you. That simple.

okay smarty pants, were you around during the time of the flood to say it didnt happen? no you were not there and i do not see any sources to show your information is correct. in fact scientists have found hieroglyphics on the walls of caves about the sky being red and a theory is that mars and earth had a near collision in which earth stole mars atmosphere because earth's magnetic pull is stronger, why dont you try to guess where all the water most likely came from? oh and about the bible, you have greatly misinterpretted the meaning behind that verse, you are just looking for trouble. truth is, the book also says obey your parents and and love your neighbor, are you against that? churches have a positive effect on the community, and all they ask in return is to dance around and scream and shout and be joyful, how would you have it hmm? you want your children to disobey you? yea thats what i thought, shut your mouth or ask questions politely.

The Bible also say: "Do not put the Lord your God to the test" (Matthew 4:7). It is dangerous to state things that you know nothing of. Read the whole Bible before you decide to state things like that.
By the way, the Bible is not a theory; the World Flood did take place. It has been proven, not by Christians, but by science.

It is only nonsense because you choose not to believe it, but to answer your question I will use the same answer that Jesus said to Satan when he was being tempted in the desert.
Luke 4:9-12 "Now he led him into Jerusalem and stationed him upon the battlement of the temple and said to him: “If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down from here; for it is written, ‘He will give his angels a charge concerning you, to preserve you,’ and, ‘They will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.’” In answer Jesus said to him: “It is said, ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test.’"
Now are people listening to Jesus if they are handeling poisenous snakes and drinking poison? People that do this are not believers because they did not listen to what Jesus taught. Jesus did all things for his father's glory. The people that die doing what you said, are seekign their own glory.
Now for the rest of your statement, You cannot know that a world flood never took place. You choose to believe those that say it never took place. There are many things that take looking into to try and grasp what is going on, but believeing that life just happened by itself is pretty ubserd to me.
Let's see, there was this big rock inthe middle of the universe that got there all by it self, and one day it exploded, all by itself. Then life came to be all by itself. Sounds like a whole lot of non-sense to me. You believe yours and I'll believe mine.
