There actually is not such thing as "good" or "white" vodou. There are spirits we refer to as "white" or "cool" lwa which roughly means they are more formal and restrained in their characters and they are served under the Rada rights of the Vodou tradition. These lwa generally are considered to hail directly from Dahomey as opposed to the Petro (Petwo) lwa who are hotter in nature and are by many considered to have been "born" in this hemisphere out of the pain of slavery. The Gede (Ghede) are another class of lwa who, as I have been taught, give voice to the unknown ancestors, especially those who died in the Middle Passage. All of the lwa have their roots in Africa despite any shifts in personality that may have taken place as a result of the black holocaust.
