Try being the person that has to explain this to everyday citizens. I get an extreme amount of calls wanting us to put up deer crossing signs because they saw a deer there one time. This one woman could not accept the fact that unless there was an actual path that they followed the sign would do no good. She kept on an on until I told her that because those in her neighborhood knew that the deer could be there (it was rural with woods up and down the road for miles) but the deer did not know that the drivers would be there that we would go into the woods and install vehicle crossing signs so the deer would know to watch out. She thanked me and told me that she hoped it would help. She never called back.

The deer crossing signs are not for the benefit of the deer but for the benefit of you and me. Someone has been observing the migratory patterns of the deer, and determined the places where lots of them like to cross the roads, so they put up these signs to let human drivers know the results of the research.

There are some intersections that have signs saying this is a high traffic accident place. Those signs do not tell people to have another accident there. They are there because statistically those intersections have already had much more of their fair share of accidents, so people are warned to be extra careful going through them.

Hi....deer tend to follow paths. Sometimes they run thru the woods astray but mostly, here in Arkansas, when your in the woods u can spot a "deer trail", or a path. Most likely, when you see a "deer crossing" sign, a few people have hit deer on the road in that area, .......the sign is for you, the driver, to be aware. Good Luck!!

In the woods there are signs directing deer to the appropriate place to cross. They are excellent readers having learned how in Deer School!

The deer are smarter than the people who install these signs.
